For those who drive/intend to drive in France, as from 1st January 2012, it is illegal to have any form of advance warning of any type of offence detection camera, whether it be a fixed site or area of camera surveillance. Max fine of 1500 Euro.
Detectors of any sort have always been illegal, but now ANY system which gives a location of a camera using existing GPS technology is included ie fixed in-car systems which provide GPS location of speed cameras.
I have not seen details of any proscutions yet, but rest assured the Gendarmes will certainly be checking.

wow, you are going too far, first a policeman is stupid in France, i don't understand why, this is really strange and they all have this weird accent (maybe because they are stupid); but moreover, a french police officer don't speak english and he don't understand it at all...

Indeed and Sarko is a TYPICAL Socialist pretending to be a "conservative" - not that much different from Red Rajoy in Spain. After all, just to make sure nobody is confused the head of the Spanish highway patrol is a Socialist critized for years and incompetent up to the point of not even having a driver's license (stereotypical Spanish socialist nepotism - not even bother to fake a competence-experience) and yet he still has a job.

I am living in France and I see that the french "Coyote" gps speedcam warning system has been changed to give a waring something like "danger area" and I read it must cover 4km on the autoroutes to 600m in towns.
Hopefully a new version of Igo wil come soon to cover this.
It would appear that GPS manufacturers have made software updates available which will "turn off" the fixed site warnings, or turn those warnings into a warning of a dangerous area. The prefectures have increased the number of dangerous areas by including any stretch of road where the speed limit changes, any significant bend etc . etc. , thus making any warning useless and overloading the system .
The penalty for having an illegal system is up to €1500 fine and 6 points !!!!
Still waiting to see news of the first prosecution.
