Gazo, if I were not already married I would marry you!
I burned the DVD with a Plextor (not very reliable, to tell the truth ...) and it doesn't work. Same issue of G version.
I don't know if it's my burner fault, but I googled "4G0 919 884 J" (with quotes) and I found that even in motor-talk.de and audiforum.nl forums they have the same problem.
The idea that a sort of "activation code" is required is seriously considered.

My copy works flawlessly in a 2010 Q5
No activation is required
PS I am not in a habit of posting images that do not result in a working copy!

This is a very good news. Which old version did you update from? D, F or G?
No doubt about that!
I'm tryng to understand why this J version doesn't update my MMI as yours.
Other people around still having same problem as I have: MMi 3G DVD 2011 installation error: No update
I hope it could be a matter of burner only. Tomorrow I'll try again with a very reliable pioneer burner (crossing my fingers....)

I habe just confirmed that the earlier version was 2009 "F" version

I've just burned the DVD image with my pioneer 112-L.
I'm 100% sure about this burner because I did a copy of my original "D" version and it works flawlessly. It's not a burner matter.
The burned DVD does't work. The MMI recognise the new 2011 map database but at the next step says "update not found", the same issue claimed by other people.
I absolutely trust you when you assure that it works on other cars so maybe in some market/cars the update is locked. I haven't any other possible reason for update failure. I did a lot of backup copies since 2006 (I had a RNS-E) without any issue and I'm not just a novice. I'm sure I did everything in the right way.
In your first post I can see that at least 6 users downloaded this image::
and it would be interesting to know if they got any problem while updating. The Following 6 Users Say Thank You to gazo For This Useful Post:
Avto.net (Yesterday), charlye59 (02-05-2011), Glider (02-05-2011), marionyk (02-05-2011), nevoituu (02-05-2011), titan181 (Yesterday)
Any other suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
Update - Just read news: somebody has the same issue with a genuine AUDI DVD also.

I have just confronted my "supplier" with these issues and he re-confirms that the dvd he handed me has been used in the said Q5 and is reported working
I am sorry if there are problems which I cannot control!
Reading the other issues on the German, English and DUtch forums one might be inclined to agree that this update DVD does have problems!
I am going to test it on another 2010 Q5 this week and reprot back

That's very kind of you.
I had a thought (it's only an idea, this is driving me nuts!):
4G0 919 884 J first equipment DVD, not for sale alone (= not for update!)
4G0 060 884 J for sale/update release.
Can you ask your "supplier" if he had to perform succesfully the update procedure (new 2011 database found, do you want to update Y/N - update in progress - ecc.ecc.. ) in his car? Maybe that from F to J the software is the same and doesn't require the update. (who knows......maybe.....)

I have just been to the Audi dealershiup and I can confirm that the copied DVD works flawlessly in a brand new A6
Of course I do realize this does not mean it will work in other units previously running an older version
The 060 after sales version is not yet available for delivery!
