I have an E39 2001 530i Station Wagon and mine just says it cannot read the disc but thanks for the post at least it enabled me to try

Not surprisingly since the 2001 E39 was fitted with a High system with the DVD reader in the trunk
In some cases it may even have been fitted with the last series of the MK3 CD unit

Thanks for the reply at least I am a little wiser than when i posted, it is the one with the dvd reader in the trunk so assume i now need to look for a high system map of NZ. thanks again for the info

Don't bother to use a DVD, just a CD will do fine

Thanks for your help Gazo unfortunately it is still coming back "A disc cannot be read" so can only assume there may be a problem with the reader, But as I said thanks for your help it was much appreciated

Can you compare the contents of the just written cd with the original one

Unfortunately I don't have an original CD there wasn't one when I purchased ther car, I have downloaded both parts and burnt the cd using the "cue" file in part one rar folder I presume this then automatically links to part 2 or have I missed something ?

Yes you missed the point completely
Extract the file form part 1 and you will end up with a BIN file and a CUE file
This CUE file you must open with Imgburn and burn the ensuing image to a disc

In the end you will have a disc with 5 files:
abstract
copyrigh
carindb
carinet
bibliogr

If not you're doing something wrong

Thats exactly what I have on the disc so it has burnt ok, I used Imgburn as suggested in the thread so maybe the reader in the unit is faulty or is one brand of CD better than another?

There are large differences in quality althought the BMW reader is not known to be very critical
Try another brand and if possible another writer

Works for me as purple disc CD-R ISOburner 2x
