Cool Re: 2 din recomendation (From china)

    Hello,

In my experiance the main problem with the cheap GPS's from China is that they does not feature Gyro compasses or speedometer connections, they only feature GPS, so they will be useless in tunnels etc. This is also the main problem with all the handheld stuff, Navigon, TomTom, Garmin etc.

Another con is that, to my knowledge, non of the Chinese ones will offer the navigation instructions in the dashboard, only on the head unit and of course *** spoken instruktions

Btw, does the Chinese stuff offer working TMC ?

My Car GPS history started back in -02 when i fitted my Miata with a Becker Traffic pro. After that I've owned two VW Passat with factory mounted systems, they rock. Since I'm an tech nerd I've tested all the navigation systems I have got my hands on, so Garmin, TomTom, Navigon and "all" free Android navigation Apps, the only thing that could take me off proper carmounted systems are the Android app Waze, it rocks!

    Hi Mirage

Does your unit run on Windows CE 5.0 and if so can you advise how you installed Tomtom, as I'm not sure I'm keen on the Sygic GPS. BTW I just purchase a unit for 200 quid to replace the Japanese unit on my Toyota Lucida import and for such a reasonable price, I'll be delighted just to get Radio 4 & to be able to use the Bluetooth calling with my phone, everything else (GPS, TV etc) is an incredible cheap bonus! My motor only cost 1500 quid so I can hardly justify paying 600-700 on a more well-known make

Also I paid a few quid extra for a unit with the TMC (traffic) function and so I wondered if this is only likely to work with the Sygic GPS on the supplied SD card, or is there a version of Tomtom (or Garmin) or any of the more familiar brands of SatNav which might work with the traffic function

Apologies for pestering you with my bothersome queries
    Kind Regards
    Bernard

(I posted a similar query in a thread in "other systems" before I realised there was a "2 din" heading)
