Good question.
You understand that I will not use the original on two cars that I have to update. There are Aviator and Navigators 2005 waiting for the disk. I will use the copy of the original. Bets are it will work because there's some one who didn't want to share either his original or a copy with me. According to him all copies still work for Lincoln vehicles

Hi Guys,
I would be interested too but I have a question. I basically bricked my navigation unit because I tried to update the system and it is requiring the system upgrade disk. Does the new 7d disk update the system as well? If so I would be interested! Thanks.

I didn't understand by what you meant by saying you bricked it. Doesn't it work at all currently? My update worked very easily. Once the disk was inserted it was immediately recognized. Not sure if there is something on the disk that made an upgrade of the system. There's a lot of *.idx files together with *.kwi files on the disk.

Here is what I did and i suggest others do not do it:
I went into the navigation diagnostics menu and forced it to do a system update. It asked for the System update cd which I did not have and now whenever I turn on the car the navigation comes up with the screen "Caution could not load system software, Insert Correct Disk". I was hoping the newest version would require some sort of firmware system update that would reinstall the system software for me. Basically when you first inserted the disk did the system update or is this purely just a map update?

Well, I've never heard there's a firmware upgrade disk for Lincoln/Ford. Who knows may be they hid something in their new disk. If I were in your shoes I'd try to reset everything to defaults and then feed your navi a new disk.

There is a firmware disc. That's what enoemosmai needs.

Yeah I've been trying other firmware disks with no luck. I think I may have found a work around though. Apparently there is an add on kit that allows you to have satellite hookup. What it does is it adds a sat button (replaces fm2) button on the navi screen. I am thinking that this upgrade will flash my system and hopefully reinstall everything. I called the dealer and they are having it shipped from United Radio (services our oem nav). Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread!
