Ford Navi Sd and Navi Sd Plus

Hi all!

This is a technical question, not about copyng maps, etc.

Has anyone has any information regarding tese new units in the Ford S-max, Navi SD and Navi SD Plus? My dealer has no clue at all about these units, they keep sending information regading the NX and FX versions, but I am looking for information about these new SD Card type units, you can mostly find in S-Maxes.

I have searched the web but not much info about them, and the ones I have found wre in German.

So any helop would be appreciated, about the map details, updatability, when there is new maps avaiable, etc. My dealer couldn't answer me for these basic questions.

These units seem to be quite similar to the new Connect Navi's that Opel is fitting
The poor man's model with only a regional SD Card and the more expensive on with Europe complete on an SD Card
The simple model cannot read larger SD Cards and you will have to buy additional SD cards for every country you want to go to
The price of just one country is comparable to the price of a basic PND with Europe complete and with a recent map database.
View the policy handled by Ford and its suppliers you can expect the SD card data to be way out of date

Thx for the info, though Ford brochure says both unit uses 8 GB SD cards. Navi SD+ has a Sony premium sound system while Navi SD doesn't, also rear view camera is optional only for Navi SD+.

That's is what I mean that Ford is also selling pure crap which should be absolutely unacceptable and apalling way of doing business
Take the radio only and buy a PND. Much better than anything out of the Ford dealership

If both units use 8 GB cards this may be the difference with the Opel system
I do hope you can use the additional storage space for MP3

I am jumping on this thread as a last ditch effort for help as Ford has been no help what-so-ever!
Is there any chance you have the Europe base maps for a US Spec, Clarion built, NAVTEQ loaded NAV system?
My wife's 2011 Ford Taurus SHO has the Clarion NAV system, but the North America maps are the only ones available. NAVTEQ sends me to Ford, Ford Sends me to NAVTEQ and once in a while one of those two sends me to Clarion Corp. since they built it.
It uses the 10G HD with the CD-ROM/DVD loading system.
Any help is greatly appreciated, but I am losing hope for a solution...

Where can I find new maps for this and how do I make a new SD card to use with the gps?

If you had carefully read through the posts you would have known these SD cards cannot be copied
So if you want maps, you go to the Ford Dealership and buy them

Some update!

I got the car with the factory nav and actually there is only 1 version of the navigation unit you can order from the factory (SD Plus). For my surprise the map database is very up to date 2011 Q2 or Q3.
The road network is not that detailed and doesnt have the same amounr of POIs like the RNS510 has, but the database is very up to date compare to the RNS510.
