  • Google Maps

Its free after all and works quite well on Android sets

Nothing too complicated and no pay-for' maps to worry about.

Had a lot of fun with this, StreetView is a decent tool also.

Okay it will eat your battery life sure enough if left running (GPS needs to be switched off in the background when maps are not in use) Can be a little costly on a 3G data plan outside of your normal monthly comfort zone. Or if your abroad for instance.

Having said that, it makes for a great backup if your travelling and your TomTom, Garmin, or other treasured device suddenly decides to take a dump on you. Yes, unfortunately it happened to me

Google maps is normally pre-loaded for Android phones. But just in case you don't have this, and other Google apps!

    Re: Google Maps

Google maps is great and is what I have been using, a couple of times I have been left without service, or very slow service and it gives me trouble to get the maps. I've started using igo for these situations.

Just to clarify a bit of the statement above.
The "Google Maps app" is pre-loaded.
The Google maps itself, I meant the database, are still on their, Google server.
So anytime we use it, it needs internet connection (either via wifi or mobile network) to work properly.
Yes, the later version does allow pre-cache, but not much.
