I know that you can only have 1 map on the SD card on older devices with the garmin folder, But I notice when I update 200 series models that in the software change history it says "Changes from version 5.00 to 5.10
Added support for a second map on an SD card"
But it still doesn't seem to support more than 1 map
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thank you I will try that.
I am currently using over 2GB and below 4GB files on the 200 series without any issues, On 300 and 600 it does need to be under 2GB.
I once read that some 200s can and some can't but I have not found that and I deal in hundreds, Maybe there was an update at some point.
The 2GiB img file limit [not a decimal gigabyte, a binary gigabyte] was removed for all Series 2, 4 & 7 nuvi models some time back, around the same time that a second map gmapsup1.img was enabled in them for SD card. The real so-called '4GB limit' is in fact 4GiB [gibibytes] minus 1 byte, i.e. 4,294,967,295 bytes. A decimal GB [gigabyte] is 1,000,000,000 bytes and that's how SD cards are measured. Therefore a near-4GiB image will not fit on a 4GB SD card. Confusingly Microsoft still uses the original binary interpretation of a gigabyte, albeit quite correctly.
The earlier 3x0 and 6x0 units and also nuvi5x0 as well as the Asian fw versions of 2 & 7 series all missed out on the larger image for SD and still have the 2GiB-1byte limit [2,147,483,647 bytes]. But again, you can't fit an almost 2GiB image on a 2GB card.
