Can you format a standard Garmin to the Bmw spec so it will work in the bmw retro fit kit?

Is there any tutorial and files for firmware updating ?

I've see that we can : "ENABLE HIDDEN FEATURES IN YOUR NÜVI 12XX, 13XX AND 14XX. Lane assist, JCV, speed limit indicator." by flashing it.

or is there a simply way for adding JCV files into my GPS ?

I don't have any JCV folder ....

Probably a silly question for the experts but what is the difference between locked and unlocked map files ?

Also when I downloaded some individual country files for my Garmin 360, mostly only few hundred mb each, every time I tried to put in a destination it took ages to calculate and then stalled with a 'not enough memory' error. This seems rather illogical since the original gmapprom.img is nearly 1.2gb yet with that it's fast and does not give any such error ?

I can see on web that most of the old Garmin are very cheap just now.
I think it better to buy a' new one my friend
And you can always update your device with new maps here on GPSU

I messed up my nuvi 1490t by formatting it. I didn't really want to do that, it was just mounted at the wrong time and I slipped up and formatted the wrong drive, go figure. So, I managed to get it working again. It took a lot of research and time to get it back where it is however, it seems to be missing some files. I notice the qwerty keys don't show up with no option to choose either. Does anyone have a backup of the files that belong in the memory? or, some suggestion on hiw to get this thing back to "normal" ?
