Hi folks, with permission of the user who previously posted this link I am creating a new post with the last version available of the Garmin Costa Rica Map 6.1 released on May/June 2012 incluiding a set of POIs that you just have to download and copy/paste on your devices as usually removing the old map (6.0 Version); the POIs can be used without delete any old POIs.
Version 6.1 is performing wonderfully in the Nuvi 1300. Points of interest as well as speed areas. Wonderful. Understand version 6.2 is out, however, and am now anxious to secure same. Any out there?! Thanks!
First, Thanks to the contributors to this website. It's a great resource for GPS users.
I have a Garmin Nuvi 750. I downloaded the 6.0 version of Costa Rica maps and installed the files on my SD card under Garmin/Map. I can see the map on Basemap as well as the POI's. I just got back from Costa Rica where I tried to use the GPS and I could not load the Costa Rica maps while there. I suppose I did something wrong. It did show the map set on Map Info on the GPS but it never loaded. Now that we are back in Texas, I've been playing with it some and reading the forums to understand what went wrong. I have downloaded the 6.1 version and installed it to the SD card. Does the GMAPSUPP.IMG file need to go in the Garmin folder or do I need to make a Garmin/Map folder and place it there? There isn't a "Map" folder on the main (non SD card) GPS storage, the map file is in the Garmin folder. I can locate POI's on the GPS. Is there any way to positively verify that the maps will show up while I'm here in Texas. I'm going back to Costa Rica in two months and would like the have this setup before then and not have the problem I had last week with no maps showing up.
Next question. I've had this device since around 2008. It shows the City Nav maps for 2008 & 2009. It has never been updated since 2009 maps were installed. The device has been updated but not the maps. Since I have no onboard storage space other than the SD card, can I delete the City Nav maps? I don't use, need or want those maps. The Costa Rica maps are all I want on this unit.
