Deaf ears, deaf ears. The source of these downloads are from a site that ryhmes with Goeman. They don't believe in torrents, they don't believe in binaries. They only believe in making downloading as difficult as possible by using filesharing sites that cost you money to become a paid member and that can be shut down in minutes. There was a very good torrent site, that rhymes with Gringoide that was recently shut down just like there were sites like rapidshare that were too, but more broader. Often a user from here or the other site previously mentioned would upload the files as a torrent where it can be shared by all, without all this ridiculous nonesense of downloading a dozen files over a period of months, unless of course, you're at your computer 24/7 where you can do it sooner.
Don't be surprised that after these last few posts, the senior or popular posters will jump in defending the use of these filesharing sites that we all dislike.
Over time though, there will be less need to download these maps as Garmin is selling devices that have lifetime maps included, making this discussion moot.

Can someone please tell me the exact size (in bytes) of the full unlocked img file? I am wondering whether it will fit onto my 1490T or whether I need to get a mapsource version and only produce USA+Canada for myself. Thanks.

Maybe it would be easier to buy 8GB MicroSDHC 5$ or 16GB MicroSDHC 9$ you will need in the future

The links in post #3 by bam-bam are from zippyshare. They are extremely fast and you can download multiple at once.
