Sorry, I had a Tomtom before and want to try Garmin now. I can't find any tutorial in the forum about how to unlock the map and upgrade it.
Any help is really appreciated.

Hi cabuffalo;20902
Before you delete any map images from your Garmin please always take a copy and keep it on your Pc, You have not said what operating system you have on your PC but you could try going into the "control panel", "Folder options" and make sure you have the button clicked for "Show hidden files and folders", also just a few lines further down you must also take out the tick from "Hide protected operating system files", once you are able to see the map images look for your current map which would read gmapprom.img thats the one that needs replacing, again please back it up, if you download an unlocked map you will probably find it's been named gmapsupp.img this you can place directly into your Garmin as you will see you don't have an image of this name then just use it by going into you Garmins settings and untick your older map if you have got gmapsupp.img rename your new map to gmapsup2.img that way you will be able to test it first before you choose to use
here is a link for your info
Hope I helped
