i'm stumped on this process. I have legitimately purchased the canadian maps. I have a gpsmap520 and an oregon 400t. The maps are on an sd card for the 520. I copied the files in the garmin sd card folder to my desktop. Downloaded this file. Plugged in my oregon with microsd. So I downloaded the 5.31. The instructions aren't clear. What am I pasting in the two txt files? the xml file from my garmin itself has a load of lines that I can are set for my 520. Really need help here.
You are put the name of the mapset and the map headings in each text file and save.
After you use the unlocker - the original details was removed in the process.
You can put what you want for the name of the map and the heading
Used this to unlock Garmin Thailand StreetMap v9_0_NT and the map is working successfully on my nuvi 3790T but when I go into tools -> settings -> myMaps, the nuvi 3790T crashes / instantly switches off.
What is language you use in .TXT file
This newest map anyway
Im using plain English in the text file and with the 10.1 map downloads, the map file I use from the 57_101_EN rar is called gmapprom.img.
When I run it through the unlocker I end up with GMAPSUPP.IMG in the unlocked folder.
Copy that to the nuvi in the \Garmin folder does nothing. (using device memory, not SD card). For the Thai V9 map I ended up creating a \Map\ directory and placing it in there and it works but if I go to tools -> settings -> myMaps, the device switches off.
When I place the unlocked GMAPSUPP.IMG from the Thai v10.1 EN map into \Garmin\ , nothing happens. Placing it into \Map\ nothing happens either.
Renaming it back into gmapprom.img and placing it into \Garmin\ or \Map\ nothing happens either.
I wish they would just sell the Thai map.... But some regulatory issues caused Garmin to pull the Thai maps from their online store recently.
I just download 57_101_EN.rar and test...
I unlock it with unlocker and works perfect...
Placing the original downloaded gmapprom.img from the Thai v.10.1 EN into \Garmin\ does nothing, placing it into \Map\ says "cannot unlock maps". So the downloaded (locked) map seems to be OK and putting it into \Map\ instead of \Garmin\ seems to be correct for this model nuvi.
You then place the gmapprom.img into the unlockers "MAP Locked" folder and populate the first line of MapSetName.txt and MapSetHeader.txt with 1-50 characters in English, what you actually write in there doesn't matter, right ?
Then you run UNLOCK MAP DIRECTORY.exe and assuming there were no errors, you will find that "MAP UnLocked" and "MAP Locked" now contain a GMAPSUPP.IMG.
You then place GMAPSUPP.IMG from "Map UnLocked" into the \Map\ folder on the nuvi's root directory and reboot it.
In my case, nothing happens. The map isn't in use and isnt showing in settings menu either.
