    Re: GTM TMC keys

Activating a U.S./Canada TTN traffic subscription (for real)...

Sorry, this isn't a tutorial and I likely won't be able to respond to questions but the info on this forum helped get me going and I wanted to return the favor.

Working with a Nuvi 660 and GTM-20, I wanted the TTN traffic because Navteq coverage in my locale is non-existent and TTN works very nicely.

The common procedure listed on this forum is to use the jetmouse 1.5 (updated/modified) keygen utility to get an activation code for the FM traffic receiver and this works great for Navteq. The common problem many find is that the TTN "lifetime" subscription deactivates to "expired" after a minute or so.

This seems to be due to how the 2 main U.S. traffic info-providers, Navteq and Total Traffic Network, manage their
subscriptions... Navteq is "all or nothing" so you're either subscribed forever or you don't have it at all. TTN, however,
used the "free trial" approach which then Expired after a period and required you to buy an "extension" subscription.

I have no idea of what format the activation info is stored in on the FM traffic receiver or what procedure the
receiver's firmware uses to validate activation status but it appears that Navteq simply checks for (the equivalent of)
YES or NO active subscription while TTN must compare the current date to a stored EXPIRATION date.

It appears that the activation code generated by the JM 1.5 keygen is incomplete for TTN- it creates a"valid" activation
but does not translate to an actual expiration date that the TTN routines can evaluate as In The Future. So you generate the activation/subscription code, enter it into the GPS, and get the response that the subscription was entered
successfully followed by the "TTN (US/CAN): Lifetime Subscription" banner. All is wonderful except, within a minute or
so, the software grabs the current date, compares it to what should be a valid expiration date sometime in the future, and then cancels your subscription when it doesn't find it.

The solution to activating a (lasting) TTN subscription is to use a key generator that works with and produces an actual expiration date that's well into the future.

I used an old utility referred to in Message #93 in this forum: "jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe". Based on the Jetmouse keygen
version 1.3, this had been modified specifically to generate an activation code for the U.S. TTN/Total Traffic Network subscription, using the FM receiver's Unit ID and a number (4095 works fine) entered in the modified "MapID:" popup
window. The number calculates out to a specific expiration date for the TTN subscription late in the 21st century making it effectively a "lifetime" subscription.

    Where to get it:
The link I finally found through Google sent me to FilesTube:

JmkgTMCmod - Free Download from rapidshare - FilesTube.com
    OR
Go directly to RapidShare, download ("Save File... To My Computer"),and unpack the downloaded jmkgTMCmod.rar file using the password:

www.gpsunderground.com (listed on the FilesTube page, if you search)

You'll end up with 4 files:
Garmin_Week_calculator_TMC_MOD.xls (bypass this and just use 4095)
InfoUC_v1.03.exe (checks the generated activation code for validity and shows some info)
jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe (Jetmouse Garmin Key Generator V1.3 modified to generate an activation code with an Expiration Date for use with the Total Traffic Network on your Garmin FM-TMC traffic receiver. Hard-coded for U.S. TTN with FID # 28992)
jmkg TMC with Exp Howto.txt (basic instructions, but use 4095 for MapID instead of running the XLS script for an expiration code, assuming you even have Excel)

To sum it up- to activate TTN traffic, you need the utility "jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe", along with your traffic receiver's
Unit ID and a large number up to 4095 to get an expiration date far in the future.
TTN and Navteq can co-exist but Navteq activation must be calculated with jetmouse 1.5 (latest, modified for 5 digits).
Info can be found on this forum.
