    Re: GTM TMC keys

    Activating a U.S./Canada TTN traffic subscription (for real)...

    Sorry, this isn't a tutorial and I likely won't be able to respond to questions but the info on this forum helped get me going and I wanted to return the favor.

    Working with a Nuvi 660 and GTM-20, I wanted the TTN traffic because Navteq coverage in my locale is non-existent and TTN works very nicely.

    The common procedure listed on this forum is to use the jetmouse 1.5 (updated/modified) keygen utility to get an activation code for the FM traffic receiver and this works great for Navteq. The common problem many find is that the TTN "lifetime" subscription deactivates to "expired" after a minute or so.

    This seems to be due to how the 2 main U.S. traffic info-providers, Navteq and Total Traffic Network, manage their
    subscriptions... Navteq is "all or nothing" so you're either subscribed forever or you don't have it at all. TTN, however,
    used the "free trial" approach which then Expired after a period and required you to buy an "extension" subscription.

    I have no idea of what format the activation info is stored in on the FM traffic receiver or what procedure the
    receiver's firmware uses to validate activation status but it appears that Navteq simply checks for (the equivalent of)
    YES or NO active subscription while TTN must compare the current date to a stored EXPIRATION date.

    It appears that the activation code generated by the JM 1.5 keygen is incomplete for TTN- it creates a"valid" activation
    but does not translate to an actual expiration date that the TTN routines can evaluate as In The Future. So you generate the activation/subscription code, enter it into the GPS, and get the response that the subscription was entered
    successfully followed by the "TTN (US/CAN): Lifetime Subscription" banner. All is wonderful except, within a minute or
    so, the software grabs the current date, compares it to what should be a valid expiration date sometime in the future, and then cancels your subscription when it doesn't find it.

    The solution to activating a (lasting) TTN subscription is to use a key generator that works with and produces an actual expiration date that's well into the future.

    I used an old utility referred to in Message #93 in this forum: "jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe". Based on the Jetmouse keygen
    version 1.3, this had been modified specifically to generate an activation code for the U.S. TTN/Total Traffic Network subscription, using the FM receiver's Unit ID and a number (4095 works fine) entered in the modified "MapID:" popup
    window. The number calculates out to a specific expiration date for the TTN subscription late in the 21st century making it effectively a "lifetime" subscription.

    Where to get it:
    The link I finally found through Google sent me to FilesTube:

    JmkgTMCmod - Free Download from rapidshare - FilesTube.com
    OR
    Go directly to RapidShare, download ("Save File... To My Computer"),and unpack the downloaded jmkgTMCmod.rar file using the password:

    www.gpsunderground.com (listed on the FilesTube page, if you search)

    You'll end up with 4 files:
    Garmin_Week_calculator_TMC_MOD.xls (bypass this and just use 4095)
    InfoUC_v1.03.exe (checks the generated activation code for validity and shows some info)
    jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe (Jetmouse Garmin Key Generator V1.3 modified to generate an activation code with an Expiration Date for use with the Total Traffic Network on your Garmin FM-TMC traffic receiver. Hard-coded for U.S. TTN with FID # 28992)
    jmkg TMC with Exp Howto.txt (basic instructions, but use 4095 for MapID instead of running the XLS script for an expiration code, assuming you even have Excel)

    To sum it up- to activate TTN traffic, you need the utility "jmgkg13modTMCExp.exe", along with your traffic receiver's
    Unit ID and a large number up to 4095 to get an expiration date far in the future.
    TTN and Navteq can co-exist but Navteq activation must be calculated with jetmouse 1.5 (latest, modified for 5 digits).
    Info can be found on this forum.

    Re: GTM TMC keys

    Hi I have a GVN52 attached to kenwood DDX7039 head unit and just purchased the GTM25 for the life of me I have no idea what the unit id is for the GTM25, to try and generate codes, as when I plug it in and power the units up I get no acknowledgement that it is even there. I am in Australia and looking for the Suna codes unless someone local in Victoria has a better source. thanks

    Re: GTM TMC keys

    Hi,

    first, I'd like to say many thanks to all who published reasonable and very
    clear posts about Garmin and TMC. Without You this little survey never finished successfully.
    TMC service was not available in my region for a long time, it changed these days so I started
    to play with it.
    Hardware used: 1490T, GTM25.
    This HW setup was marked as not supported to get TMC running in my region ( don't ask
    me, ask somebody from Garmin sales). As I was not very happy to be pushed to
    get new GTM35 I did the config myself and luckily was able to make it running.
    Hopefully this guide will help other people too. You have to find out Yourself if
    it is supported on Your device or not.

    At the beginnig I knew only the radio frequency of broadcastiong radio station
    which transmits the TMC data and the info, that it is a payed service. The broadcasting
    radio frequency is 94.3MHz.

    Let's get some data from nuvi:

    ### nuvi 1xxx, GTM25 FM TMC receiver connected, GTM Info screen
    ### original settings
    ### ( to get to GTM info screen on Your nuvi follow steps [1])

    ---FM Tabble--- Subscriptions
    <unknown> 94.30 5/e2/6/51 6 Traffic Master (UK) 1001 12/e1/7/7

    Via-Michelin (FR) 1001 15/e1/58/29
    TMobilis (BE) 1001 6/e0/3/1
    Infoblu (IT) 1001 5/e0/50/1

    Mediamobile Nordic (FI, NO, SE, PL) 1001 15/e2/1/49
    Mediamobile Nordic (FI, NO, SE, PL) 1001 14/e3/2/33

    ### nuvi 1xxx, GTM25 FM TMC receiver connected, FM Traffic Status
    ### righ column
    ### ( to get to FM Traffic Status screen on Your nuvi follow steps [2])

    PND State: 4-Scanning
    GTM Mode: 2-Srch FM tbl
    FM Grid: World

    OTA/ODA: YES/NO
    LAST TMC: ------ s
    -Count: 0
    Last LBA: ------ s
    -Count 3/12: 0/0

    You can see available FM radio stations in Your area transmitting TMC on left part of GTM Info

    screen and TMC service subscriptions on right part. I expect the right part as original part of

    GTM25. I bought the GTM25 2nd hand and I don't know if the guy did some tweaks before or not.
    FM Traffic Status shows the device is trying to connect to TMC service.

    Anyhow at this stage it is important to get this part from FM Tabble column:

    5/e2/6/51

    which means

    cc/ecc/sid/ltn /* please study other docs if You like to understand the meaning more detailed

    There is a TrafficProvider.xml file which hosts known TMC service providers in particular
    country.
    /* ( xml file on Your Garmin device is located in .System folder.)
    Let's check the xml file ..., oops there is no service provider for country where the service is

    offered:

    ### Garmin\.System\TrafficProvider.xml
    ### original part

    <country name="Country" cc="5" ecc="226" fmTuningGrid="World">
    <boundary desc="country">
    <scposn lat="123456789" lon="123456789"/>
    ...
    <scposn lat="123456789" lon="123456789"/>
    </boundary>
    </country>

    Never mind, we can tweak it like this:

    ### Garmin\.System\TrafficProvider.xml
    ### updated part

    <country name="Country" cc="5" ecc="226" fmTuningGrid="World">
    <boundary desc="country">
    <scposn lat="123456789" lon="123456789"/>
    ...
    <scposn lat="123456789" lon="123456789"/>
    </boundary>
    <provider>
    <providerName>CET</providerName>
    <pay>true</pay>
    <tuning ltn="51" sid="6"/>
    </provider>
    </country>

    You remember how we got ltn and sid numbers do You?
    As I mentioned, the service is a payed service, so the key is needed to
    register it to You Garmin device.

    For this purpose You need a keygen ( Garmin Unlock Generator v1.5 was used) and five
    numbers: FID, PID, RgnID, VenID, FMID

    /* this part was obtained from other post, and was crucial to make the service running
    /* in that post it was used as an example where you have more ltn numbers in xml file.
    /* I used only one, so my ltn2=ltn1. VenID 1 means You are adding the service
    /* to Subscription list and 0 means You are deleting the service from list.
    FID=cc*256+sid=5*256+6=1286 REMARK: It's not always factor 256 for all FID calculations
    PID=ltn1=51
    RgnID=ltn2=51
    VenID, use 1 for insert and 0 for remove

    You can find Your "FMID" here [3]

    put all numbers to keygen and register the service with key generated by keygen [4]

    If You are lucky the result on Your Garmin device is as followed:
    /* it takes some time to connect to TMC service, be patient let Garmin
    /* few seconds/minutes to try. It is strongly adviced to power cycle both
    /* Garmin and GTM after ANY change You do following above mentioned steps

    Remember this article is published as is, for test and trainig purposes only.

    [1],[2]
    Power on the Garmin device with the GTM attached and connected to the car's power source.
    1. Touch the "speed" display to go to the Trip Computer screen
    2. Touch and hold the large round speedometer gauge for approx 6-7 seconds
    3. Touch the "Developer info""
    4. Touch the "GTM Status" or "GTM FM table"

    [3]
    There is gererally a "traffic" setup screen in the "tools" setup section but it only
    shows up when your traffic receifer is attached. From that setup screen you have the option
    to "add subscription" and an if you choose that option the Nuvi will reveal the traffic
    receivers UnitID that you need for the keygen.

    [4]
    In the keygen, you go to the "select map product" dropdown box and choose "custom mapset". This

    brings up a little pop-up window. In the case of 1286, 51, 51, 1 you enter those 4 numbers in the

    appropriate boxes.
    1. first, check the box that says "Enable additional fields (experts only)"
    2. the 1286 gets entered in the "FID(or MapID)" box
    3. the second number (in this case 51) gets entered in the "PID:" box
    4. the third number (in this case 51) gets entered in the "RgnID:" box
    5. the last number (in this case 1) gets entered in the "VenID:" box
    6. now click OK and you'll be taken back to the main keygen window.
    Now simply click the lower right "Generate" button and your 25 char key will be generated.
