Re: Garmin Cyclops™ Safety Cameras - USA & Canada Update

    Hi All,

I just bought my first garmin Nuvi 40LM.

i want to update this to last version. what i did is
    1. download the file and extra it, got two folders one is Original File, another is FID 700
    2. I remove the "USCanadaCyclopsSample.gpi" from garmin\POI folder
    3. I copy "USCanadaCyclops_Jan_05.gpi" and "USCanadaCyclops_Jan_05.unl" into Garmin\POI folder, and I turn on Garmin, I found the "Proximity Point" is gone from Setting.
    4. I follow the instruction "Garmin Cyclops™ Safety Cameras - Europe Update", download the "GKGv15_5D", put my unit ID and checked "Enable Additional Field" in order to put PID, RgnID and VendorID from Original Unl file.
    5. After got the Unlocked code, i delete unl file from Garmin\POI folder and create a text file, named it "USCanadaCyclops_Jan_05.unl", and paste the unlock code into it.
    6. I still can not see the "Proximity Point" from my GPS.

Did I doing anything wrong? all helps are appreciated.

    thanks

Use the FID700 files on your device because is GMA protected, you can see Cyclops in Tools\Settings\System\About\Extras & Safety Cameras

Re: Garmin Cyclops™ Safety Cameras - USA & Canada Update

for some reason i can not use notepad to open file to edit. i have tried: 4. Following instruction "Garmin Cyclops™ Safety Cameras - Europe Update" to get unlock code. but i cant even open the files with note pad! im using a win 7 64bit pc, i have a nuvi 50LM device. i have downloaded the updated rar file for the cyclops_Jan-05-212. in the folder i have 5 folders...1- FID700......2. FID900.....3. Original......6. UnLocked.....and a GPI_data icon............any help would be appreciated as im loosing some hair on this one. also i dont see the proximity point icon in the settings, and there is nothing in the "extras" icon. do i have to download the whole program form cyclops and then do an update? i brought this unit new with no subscription to cyclops at all. thank you in advance for the help.)

Try to open the UNL files and insert the unlock code on PC than copy inside the POI folder, if you can't again than copy the GPI from UNLOCKED folder and paste inside POI folder on device.

You can't open the .GPI files with notepad. You use notepad to create the .UNL file (where you place the unlock key). For each GPI file you decide to use, you need to create an .UNL file of exactly the same name. Lets say you want to use 2 files from the FID700 collection.... Then you need 4 files in your POI directory. example:

    x:\Poi\700_safety_camera_France.gpi
    x:\Poi\700_safety_camera_France.unl

    x:\poi\700_safety_camera_Germany_Austria.gpi
    x:\poi\700_safety_camera_Germany_Austria.unl

Since both of the the GPI files use the same FID=700 you only need to generate the key one time in put it in each of the UNL files
In the Keygen you use your unit ID along with the following 4 values in the "custom mapset" pop-up window.
    FID:700 PID:1 RgnID:0 VenID:0

After you get them working the first time, you can get the weeky ypdates by just replacing the appropriate updated "FID700" GPI files. Your UNL files and keys remain the same.

Alternatively, (as Kor@l mentioned) you could start by simply copying the UNLOCKED versions of the GPI files to the POI folder of your GPS or SD card and see if they work. If they do, no UNL files will be required and you'll be done.

Re: Garmin Cyclops™ Safety Cameras - USA & Canada Update

im going to attempt it again ( thank god i made a copy of original file system). if i were to put on a micro sd card {{4gig micro sd}} ((( as after deleting some voices and adding some voices&vehicles,, there isn't much memory left only23mb))), would i have to put a folder in the root directory named " POI"? and if not what do i do? and do i have to install some core files for Cyclops, like speed cam files? i live in the USA and this is my first gps unit. thanks in advance people.
