I have the files copied to the device (765T) but please could you give me a step by step on the key creation?

I think that I'm missing something too, tried just coping them over but get the 'locked' message.

Is it just a case of changing the Family ID in the .unl file to the model of device I have? in my case a 765T.

After copying all files to ~/Garmin/POI my nuvi 255W gives me the message that it cant open them (they are locked).

Should I copy both unl and gpi or only gpi?

You must create a UNL file using your GPS id and info in the UNL file. Copy the key created from Keygen into UNL file replacing all existing data. Copy both files to POI folder on GPS.
UNL file and GPI file must have same file name. Beware your UNL file does not have a txt extension hidden by Windows! This will stop it working.
