I read somewhere in the above thread something that said if you use an "unklocked" IMG you will not need a .UNL file for that model GPS. Therefore you shouldn't need any SD ID (that's the SD Serial number).

Excuse the stupid question but how do I unlock the map?


I have tried fastIMG unlocker 2.1 but that just crashes after some time and the Dakota says it can't unlock the resulting file?

What map and version are you trying to unlock? What is the filename of the map you are trying to unlock. I have never seen the unlocker crash! Where is your locked map located when you run the unlocker? What OS are you using?

This is the procedure to unlock an IMG
Start with a clean IMG (one that is locked and you've not accidentally messed up previously)
Copy the locked IMG from wherever ... to a PC folder
run the FastIMGunlocker on that locked IMG and it will be modified
Copy the modified IMG to the appropriate place on your GPS, SD, or micro SD

If done correctly it will work.

You could also start by downloading an unlocked IMG and you would not have to unlock it.

I have tried to unlock the map on 2 different machines. Both PCs one running XP one running Win 7.

The map was this one

GB Discoverer 1:50000 OS Full UK Map (not National Parks!)

I started by uncompressing it into a clean folder on my PC then running the unlocker.
The unlocker was put in the same folder before I ran it on both occasions. The program runs but windows reports a fault after about 3-4 minutes and the resulting image is as I say still locked.

i've just gone through everything that you have tried and i have the same results, i have the original gbdiscover maps but i wanted to put the gb discover and europe on to one sd card, so i've been looking on here about how to's..

i guess the soruce may be corrupt ?, by the time i downloaded the files and patching tools seems very odd, anyone who's got this working have any ideas, can someone verify that the soruce files are ok ?, oh by the way i was using this on a garmin edge 800

Hello,
I'm trying to install the map CNEurope 2012.40 on my Nuvi 660 but I can't get it to work. Keep getting the message Can't open maps on my nuvi. The map is installed on a SD card and it works perfectly on my Zumo550.
I made a .unl file with the generate code for the nuvi and put it on the nuvi. I also made a .unl file with the generated code for the map and put this on the SD card. Because this didn't work I tried the generated code for the SD card and put this in a .unl file on the SD card.
It still doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong?

key-in both your nuvi 660 device/unit id and mapid in jetmouse before generate gmapsupp.unl. place gmapsupp.img & gmapsupp.unl in sd card\garmin folder.
