Re: Pictures Tutorial For the Dummies On how to unlock maps on your Garmin

    Hello,

    I'm new in the forum.

I'm trying to upgrade an garmin 260 with european map.

I've EU_NT_12.40_UNL map in an SD card X:\\Garmin\, which is a GMAPPROM.img and i've the GMAPPROM.unl created and post it in the sd card (same folder).

I've used the GarminUnlockerAlternativev7.1.2, and everything went well.

I can't see the map in the device.

    CAn you help me?

what do I forget or need to do more?

    Thanks

    A couple of observations.
    1. It appears you downloaded an already unlocked IMG "_UNL" so you didn't need to use any unlock tool.
    2. When you use an unlocked IMG there is no need for an unlock ".unl" file
    3. The name must be "gmapsupp.img" on SD or the 260 will not see it. The name "gmapprom" is only used for your internal pre-installed maps.

Just rename your original IMG file and put it on SD like this.
x:\garmin\gmapsupp.img and you should be ok.

You are probably ok renaming ans using the file you got from the alternative unlocker. I don't think running the tool modified the file at all.

Help, how do I get the 10 digit ID code of my SD card? I've run a DIR prompt in DOS and only get a serial ID which is 8 digits not 10 9016-4EP8 Any ideas?

    If you have a Nuvi
hold the battery icon for about 10 sec and you'll get into a series of diagnostic screens.
flip through the sreens and you will come to a data card info screen where it will be listed.

If you don't have a Nuvi model I can't advise you. There are few methods described out on the web but they are USB hardware/software dependent and I've never found a method that generated a correct number. They all generate SD serial numbers but just none that a Garmin recognizes and that's all that matters. Also, not all SD card ID's are 10 digits these days, many are less.

If you are looking for the SD ID for a keygen, you cna probably use the GPS 10-digit unit ID instead to create your unlock key.

The only difference is that using an SD ID/SN rather than the GPS UnitID associates the maps unlock KEY with the card rather than "your" GPS which would enable the maps on card to be use on any GPS, not just yours.

You could also create your IMG file for SD and then run the "FastIMGUnlocker.exe V2.1" tool on the gmapsupp.img and it will become unlockable. No key will be required.

Does anyone know if its possible to unlock Garmin Birdseye JNX files. I have bought a few but have a few different Garmin devices. They are only valid for the device you installed to.

OK, so how about for those of us that have a GPSMap 62 ?

I have downloaded City Navigator Mexico 2010.10 NT, successfully added it to Mapsource, but cannot unlock the map. Tried using Jetmouse 1.5 to generate key, must be doing something wrong as when I enter key it does not work.
Several files were in the download, incl. City Navigator Mexico 2010 NT.gmp, as well as some zip files and CNMX2010Update_ENU.msi

Like I said, got the map onto Mapsource, but cannot unlock.

    Help please.

Re: Pictures Tutorial For the Dummies On how to unlock maps on your Garmin

Hello. I apologize if this is forum hijacking but I am really unsure where to post. I am a new member and just started researching this topic yesterday as a friend of mine asked me to assist him in installing patchmap.

Patchmap for those that are not aware of it is a map software for Garmin that is popular in the Canadian oil patch for locations and directions on how to get to those locations. Locations being the area that is gridded out for oil and gas explorations, shipping, and so on.

I have located a SD card with the Patchmap data and have been reading up on how to add map information to the garmin. But I could use some help as I am sure the map I have is locked in it's native SD form. I have been able to locate and install Mapsource as well as replaced it with a modified exe, and have my device ID.

I have a long history with hacking devices but have never tried GPS before. Any help for a noob in this field? Or even if a mod would point me in the direction of the I need help thread. Much obliged.

    We'll I'll give it a shot !

I read the information on these maps on this website
Buy PatchMap, BushMap, AgMap by SkyBase Mapping - GPS Maps, LSD grid, WMUs and much more - GPSCentral.ca

    From what I read....
    1. That SD card you have is already compatable with a Garmin GPS and all you have to do is plug it in and it should work. The map is indeed "locked" but it is locked to the SD card (not to a specific GPS). That means the SD will simply work in any Garmin GPS.

    2. It also means that on the SD card your map is likely to be in a garmin folder on SD as follows.
sd:/garmin/gmapsupp.img <<<< this is your map

you will probably see an accompanying unlock file ther named
sd:/garmin/gmapsupp.unl <<<<< this is just a text file with the unlock code allowing the map to be used with only that SD.

    3. You mention that you downloaded Mapsource. In this case Mapsource is not useful. Mapsource is a PC based map viewer, trip planner, waypoint manager, etc. You will not be able to use it. It can't read the data from that SD. The data on that SD is in a format that is normally "OUTPUT" from Mapsource. You don't have the Mapsource input files, those totally different. The map you have on SD is intended to be read by the GPS.

    4. If you want to view those maps on a PC you can probably do that by installing garmins "BaseCamp" program which can read them (map IMG files) ONLY from an SD card or GPS. If BaseCamp can't read them it's usually a very simple hack to make them work.

    5. Assuming (as I do) that you do have a file named gmapsupp.img on SD those are your maps. If you want to use the maps elseware you can fix/unlock that gmapsupp.img file so they will work on any GPS or SD card. It should be very simple.

    (A). Copy the gmapsupp.img to a PC
(B). Download the tool named gimgunlock.exe
(C). Drag the gmapsupp.img file onto the gimgunlock.exe tool ICON

Having done that your copy of the gmapsupp.img has become UNLOCKED and will just work (when copied to the correct folder on any Garmin GPS or to the Garmin folder on and SD or MicroSD). On a data card you alwas put it in a Garmin folder, In a GPS the folder name may vary depending on the model.

    Hope this helps!
