Re: Pictures Tutorial For the Dummies On how to unlock maps on your Garmin

    Hello,

    I'm new in the forum.

I'm trying to upgrade an garmin 260 with european map.

I've EU_NT_12.40_UNL map in an SD card X:\\Garmin\, which is a GMAPPROM.img and i've the GMAPPROM.unl created and post it in the sd card (same folder).

I've used the GarminUnlockerAlternativev7.1.2, and everything went well.

I can't see the map in the device.

    CAn you help me?

what do I forget or need to do more?

    Thanks

    A couple of observations.
    1. It appears you downloaded an already unlocked IMG "_UNL" so you didn't need to use any unlock tool.
    2. When you use an unlocked IMG there is no need for an unlock ".unl" file
    3. The name must be "gmapsupp.img" on SD or the 260 will not see it. The name "gmapprom" is only used for your internal pre-installed maps.

Just rename your original IMG file and put it on SD like this.
x:\garmin\gmapsupp.img and you should be ok.

You are probably ok renaming ans using the file you got from the alternative unlocker. I don't think running the tool modified the file at all.

Help, how do I get the 10 digit ID code of my SD card? I've run a DIR prompt in DOS and only get a serial ID which is 8 digits not 10 9016-4EP8 Any ideas?

    If you have a Nuvi
hold the battery icon for about 10 sec and you'll get into a series of diagnostic screens.
flip through the sreens and you will come to a data card info screen where it will be listed.

If you don't have a Nuvi model I can't advise you. There are few methods described out on the web but they are USB hardware/software dependent and I've never found a method that generated a correct number. They all generate SD serial numbers but just none that a Garmin recognizes and that's all that matters. Also, not all SD card ID's are 10 digits these days, many are less.

If you are looking for the SD ID for a keygen, you cna probably use the GPS 10-digit unit ID instead to create your unlock key.

The only difference is that using an SD ID/SN rather than the GPS UnitID associates the maps unlock KEY with the card rather than "your" GPS which would enable the maps on card to be use on any GPS, not just yours.

You could also create your IMG file for SD and then run the "FastIMGUnlocker.exe V2.1" tool on the gmapsupp.img and it will become unlockable. No key will be required.
