iron1899,
Hope this helps:
From Garmin:
What is the largest size microSD card I can use with my eTrex 20 or 30?
05/22/2012
The eTrex 20 and 30 have an expandable memory slot into which a microSD* card can be inserted. This card provides the ability to install detailed mapping to enhance the device's internal basemap.
It is recommended a standard speed card, no larger than 32 GB, be used in order to get the best performance from the device. Class 4 to Class 10 is considered standard speed.
While considering memory limitations, another limitation is the number of individual mapping segments. Roughly 3,000 mapping segments can be transferred to the eTrex 20 or 30.The eTrex will pick and choose which map segments to show when the map segment limit is surpassed. It is suggested to transfer additional mapping segments to another microSD card.
*While any microSD card brand should work, Garmin has only tested more common brands such as SanDisk and Kingston.

Garmin used to allow only one extra map in addition to the supplied basemap, and it had to be called 'GMAPSUPP.IMG'. They dropped that limitation in the Dakota / Colorado / Oregon series, and now you can use several maps in the 'GARMIN' folder on the memory card, with any file names, provided that the files are in Garmin map format and the file names have the '.IMG' extension. (Using a card reader with a Class 10 MicroSD will transfer map IMG's much faster than going through the etrex 20)
They must be in the [uSD Card]\Garmin\ directory.
Hi All,
I have NUVI 760, updated the firmware today and found what support for a second map on an SD card was added in latest version.
Garmin: nuvi 7xx (GCD file) Updates & Downloads
I tried to put second unlocked map on SD card with names gmapsupp1.img, gmapsupp2.img, gmapsup1.img, gmapsup2.img and gmapprom.img.
No success. Does anybody know how I can use it?
Thanks
@big_kolm
try gmapsupp.img, put in sd card\Garmin folder.
Hi All, new to this. I have a Garmin Montana, and an SD card with GB Discoverer. On the Device I have the following files:
Device\garmin\gmapbmap.img (basemap?)
Device\garmin\gmapsupp.img (worldwide Autoroute DEM basemap?)
Device\garmin\OSM-Morocco.img (OSM Morocco, transferred using mapinstall)
On the SD card I have:
SDcard\garmin\gmapsupp.img
SDcard\GBdiscoverer (empty folder)
I'd like to add CN NT 2013.3 UK to the SD card (1.12gb free of 3.68gb), can I do this without losing my GB discoverer maps?
thanks,
is it necessary to rename the maps to gmapsapp.img to work
