Quick and easy method to install Garmin Mobile XT on your next Windows Mobile Device

Please note: (need to have previously installed Garmin Mobile XT on a Windows Mobile device using the Desktop PC setup application and ActiveSync/Device Manager USB Sync).

This fast method of installing Garmin Mobile XT on Windows Mobile Smartphone / Pocket PC is for when you wish to install the application on another device, or very quick reinstall after hard reset (if no backup available). Its a quick and painless method to get it working again, either on a new device or after a hard reset. It will save memory on your Windows Mobile device as well, as the device will be run from the memory card.

First, copy the Garmin folder located on the memory card of the original device that was created after the desktop installation (or, after hard reset, simply use existing folder created from the original installation). i.e. copy this entire folder for the memory card used on your next device.

    SD/Garmin

Then, simply double click on the following file:

SD Card/Garmin/Apps/WM/QuePPC.exe (or QueSP for non-touchscreen)

This will run the application. Obtain the Device (or SD Card) Code you will need for the Jetmouse 1.5 KeyGen, and create the SW.UNL file in the same way you did before.

Paste the SW.UNL file in the Garmin folder on your memory card.

Copy the GMAPSUPP map image you wish to use on your memory card, and paste this into the SD Card/Garmin folder, as usual.

If all goes well, a Garmin folder will be created on the root directory of the Windows Mobile device, which should be very small (35kb)...varies, but should be tiny.

Create a shortcut for the SD Card/Garmin/Apps/WM/QuePPC.exe file, using Total Commander or Resco File Explorer, and paste this in the Windows/Start Menu/Programs folder on your device (rename it Garmin, if you like).

This method will enable you to reinstall Garmin Mobile XT on another (or several devices (!)), without the need to Sync with the Desktop PC..it just saves you a bit of time, and frees up memory on your Windows Mobile device.

"" Please note - this is for someone with previous experience on installing Garmin Mobile XT on Windows Mobile/Pocket PC""

Great tutorial, lmany thanks! Although I have a crucial question:

How did you do to create a shortcut via Total Commander? It is impossible for me to create any ".lnk" file with it. I'm talking about Windows version of Total Commander...maybe you're talking about the Mobile version?
Any chance I could have more luck with Resco File Explorer?

You can make a shortcut using Resco File Explorer, Total Commander (the one installed on your device) or even the File Explorer application you get on the device. Just select copy for the SD Card/Garmin/Apps/WM/QuePPC.exe, then choose paste as shortcut. I recommend Resco File Explorer...this is the best File Explorer application for Windows Mobile as it provides much more features than any of the others, and it has a touch optimized mode which allows you to browse files without need for a stylus.

It has a lot to do with the com port you use
    Com1
    or
    Com3

But I do not have this so you will have to search for what file you need to edit.
Does and other GPS program work on your unit?
