You don’t have to do anything with this. Everything is already patched.
Just download and burn.
APN2 – 6C101 - Europe-West 2011- 2012
ANP3 - 6C101 - Europe-East 2011 - 2012

I recommend using Imgburn.
Theoretically any DVD+R DL disc (tested on Verbatim and Platinum)
Slowest possible speed (x3/x4)
Just put DVD to navigation, updating process should start automatically.
If not (or you have error message) then press and hold for 5 sec. : MAP + MENU + CANCEL/BACK

Press “Download”

Quick query regarding the images ... does it make a difference if I just burn using IMGBURN and let that choose where the layer break should be?

Don't think just burn
Honestly I know that people burn it even with Nero.
As I wrote maps are patched so you don't need to do anything just burn it and that's it you don't need to make any special software settings.
