USA High Def DEM file

I'm going to try something new to see if my downloads will stay alive longer. The USA/Canada DEM file link you want is listed below. The file is encrypted file so it can't be scanned by the download server and then arbitrarily removed. After you download the file, you need to download and install securearchive32.exe. It's free and a useful utility to have on your pc. Once you have securearchive32 installed, just double-click on northamerica.SAef and enter the password primo216 and the files will be uncompressed and de-encrypted. Then you would just move the files to your /content/DEM folder. If you have any problem, I'll try to help. I would appreciate your opinion of this kind of packaging for downloads.

May I have the link also? Primo 2.0 USA DEM appears to be about 218MB and the one from the OP as 283MB. What's the difference?

The DEM files come from organizations(ie, NASA)that do satellite surveys of the surface of the earth. They provide the survey information in different resolutions for different uses. Just as in digital photographs, the higher the resolution, the more detail provided, and the larger the file. This DEM file, when uncompressed, is 293.5 MB. The Canadian DEM file is 309.8 MB.

I have these files on Dropbox, and when I have publicly posted the link in the past, my dropbox privileges were suspended within 8 hours, for bandwidth abuse. Uploading to Bitshare with a 34 KB bandwidth gets a bit tedious, but the increased interest seems to warrant it. Check back in about 3 hours and I'll post a public link. The file will download as carto_usa.img, just remember to rename the file to unitedstates.dem.
