Kenwood DNX-XXXX how to add/delete voices and/or vehicles without remowing unit !

    Hello!
First of all, this is an instruction for those who have forgotten to connect the mini USB cable to the back of the Kenwood unit and have not picked it up in the glove box or the device is fixed and difficult to remove, and want to change the annoying voices and vehicles with new ones!

First,in the root of empty SD card make two folders and name them "voice" and "vehicle" (without "",off course) and copy vehicles and voices as many as you want from your PC or from sites like Vehicles for GARMIN nuvi or Garmin | Garage or make your own voice with garmin voice studio Garmin | United States | Garmin Voice Studio!
Then,go to your car,put Kenwood in STAND BY,with GARMIN navigation screen visible, and put SD card in the slot in front of unit,or behind the screen, depending on the model!

Then, touch VIEW MAP,and SPEED in the lower right corner!

Now,touch and hold about 10 sec in the center of the speedometer to open "secreet menu",and touch "DEVELOPER INFO",then scroll down to "FILE MANAGER" and choose "1: (SD CARD) !

Now choose file that you want copy in to garmin/kenwood unit, one by one, touch "Actions" and "Copy", like on the pictures!

Next step is to choose folder to paste desired voice/vehicle!

And that is,only repeat for another vecihle/voice!

I hope that I have helped with this post many people and also apologized for "Google Translate" English!

    Greetings from Republic of Croatia!

What i do wrong? I've got DNX5280bt with 1.6 firmware. When I go to hiden menu and chose file manager with sd card then I do not see any file, just empty root. To root SD card ofcourse I copy voice folder with vpm file. Mayby with my radio this trick doesn't work.

check the SD card format..if it is FAT try FAT32, likewise; if it is FAT32, try FAT..some units may not like some format..just an idea..

Question to Pajser, and thank you for this good information..if you can copy and paste to and from SD card, can you rename files on the unit and overwrite? If so, surely you can do the kind of map replacement that you would normally need USB/laptop to do?

That would solve a lot of people's problems on this forum!

This trick will not work for the 80 series Kenwood headunits. Kenwood has blocked access this way.

On previous Kenwood head units you can add all the files you want this way. But.....you can't delete or replace voice files in use or anything to do with your map files. Those files are mounted to the unit when garmin is running and cannot be overwritten or deleted. When you connect via the mini usb in the back of the unit it disables garmin and unmounts the files so they can be then replaced or overwritten.

Mind that Kenwood is not using a Garmin board from the '80' units on, so there's no Mini-B on the back.
