Map update DNX5220BT

Hi all,

Awesome forum! Been reading a lot and downloaded the latest map for my Kenwood (2012.30 full unlocked img).
Updated my Kenwood to the latest available Nav software (v2.80) from Garmin and connected it to my laptop.
So far so good. It comes up as an external drive and I can browse to the folder Garmin.
In the folder Garmin there are a few files.
I have a few questions about the files.

gupdate.gcd
What is it for file, what does it do and do I need it?

gmapbmap.img
I know this is the base map. But do I really need it? Or is the 2012.30 full unlocked img file enough?
If I need it, can I get a newer version somewhere? The Base map at the moment it v2.00
(when starting the navigation I can see the boot screen with: Worldwide Autoroute DEM Basemap

This is the Update software, when you update your device this file is copied on your device G(armin)update

gmapbmap.imgYou need this file for a faster routing and when you zoom out the device will use this file to zoom faster, this file have also the major roads or DEM infos too. Use it dont delete.
there are different basemaps, Use gmaptool (Garmin tool section) to have more infos about that file, the last basemap with DEM is V5.01, download and try it if recognized on your device(Kenwood devices usually have own basemaps)

It's clear now.

The DEM file on the Kenwood is v2.00 from 2007. So I'll give v5.01 a go and see if it works.
Going to copy the files this weekend as the DNX5220BT has an USB 1.1 connection, max 550KB/s. LOL... Takes a little time to copy 2,32 GB. ;-)

Also another question.

I can use the unlocked img file for my Kenwood right?
Why are there locked versions anyways? What's the advantage for that?

bonsoir,quelqu'un comment mettre a jour mon 5220bt car je n'arrive pas à inserer le fichier GUPDATE .GCD ,mon kenwood me dis disque erreur j'ai essayé comme noté sur le site garmin mais toujors pareil j'ai essay" par clé usb ,toujours rien ,j'ai meme branche mon ordi sur le port usb mais il ne le reconnait pas ,cela fis des mois que je cherche la solution la vesion actulle est v2.20, jai le meme probleme pour mettre le system gps garmin des cartes a jour ,si une personne pouvait m'expliquer comment faire j'en serai tres heureux ,merci d'avance;a bientot j'espere

Some advice: before copy new map in DNX delete all files that you don't need and will never use,like languages,help texts,images,vehicles,Poi's,old gmapprom.img so you have an extra MB off space and unit work faster in calculating and routing!

Just wanted to let you know that everything went well this weekend!
We installed the latest base map (world wide DEM 5.01 NR) and installed the latest Europe map (CN 2012.30) with success!

Hi, ive just updated my maps to new ones like yourself on my 7240bt and ive got the 2007 Basemap still. Where did you get the basemap from and have you got a link? Also whats the filename of the basemap?
