I have plugged in a micro usb lead in the back and get full access to the Garmin folder structure .
You can just download unlocked .img of CN Europe 2012.10 from this forum and replace it with "gmapprom.img" in system folder in your Kenwood/Garmin unit!
I am Kenwood dealer, and do soo with many new and old "DNX" or "KNA" models Garmin navs built in Kenwood device!

I like the gui as it it nice and bright and uncluttered which I like but I am extremely angry and disappointed about the maps . To be honest if they are re branding old maps with new dates and they are not as current as advertised then surely this is selling by misrepresentation and should perhaps be something trading standards should be aware of . I am a part time (retired) retail consultant and I am just getting more and more frustrated with company's in this country taking advantage by flaunting and manipulating the sale of goods act to suit themselves . I have sent quite a lengthy email to Kenwood and Garmin so lets see what they have to say on the matter . Is there no way to circumvent using Garmins maps and use Navteq maps direct ? Looking in the main directory there are 4 mapping files , gmapbmap , gmap3d , gmapprom , gmaptz and they are all .img files . Is it not just a case of replacing those files with more up to date ones , although as you say , they do state the dates as being the very latest .
Unfortunately, the problem lies in the fact that it is a multimedia device, not just a navigation device! The guiding star, the main idea in making this device is to be made all in one device that will satisfy the needs and desires, so both beginners and advanced users!
So maybe the PARROT Bluetooth module, built-in device may not work in all aspects of working as a stand alone device from Parrot!

You must first download unlocked gmapprom.img of City Navigator Europe 2012.10 from this forum to some notebook(laptop)! After that, connect your KENWOOD with notebook via USB cable,USB A to USB B mini,on rear side off KENWOOD unit, and open adequately "REMOVABLE DISC" in "MY COMPUTER",search folder GARMIN,and replace old "gmapprom.img" with downloaded one!

    Re: Kenwood DNXxxxx Maps

    Hi,

pajser's solution to upgrade your "gmapprom.img" is one way to do it. Or,

you could change name of the downloaded latest map img to "gmapsupp", get a SD card and create a folder named "garmin", transfer the "gmapsupp" img to this folder, and insert it into your DNXxxxx unit (press and hold the eject button for 1-2 second and you will see the slot for SD card). The path in a simple tech term is "SD card/garmin/gmapsupp.img"

I hope this would work for you since it worked for me. Mine is Kenwood DNX7100 gps unit.

Note: If you decide to use a SDHC card, you MUST upgrade the garmin software on your unit to a latest version. Go to garmin's website and do a search for your unit's model (i.e., "Kenwood DNX7100"), it would give you a link to upgrade the gps software. Instruction how to do the upgrade will be also provided within the download link. Good luck!

    "Ask and you shall receive".

    Hi aznvi3tboi,
Can I do the same trick (upgrade) using DVD? I have DNX5220 without SD port, and unit is fixed in dashboard, so I can't access rear usb. I have only iPod cable in glove department.

Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2012.20 on Kenwood DNX5220

just want to thank you for this map

downloaded all 6 rar files and renamed the file gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img.
made a backup of the kenwood dnx5220 gmapprom.img file on a laptop just to be sure.
copied the downloaded and renamed file gmapprom.img to the kenwood dnx 5220.

    that's all

btw; it will take some time as copying from and to the kenwood deck is very slow. so be sure your car as a good battery or leave the engine running. also your laptop needs to have a good battery life for over 3 hours in total!

    Re: Kenwood DNXxxxx Maps

    Hi guys
    I have a DNX7100 and it's running City Navigator Europe NT v9.
Can I just download the 6 rar files mentioned above and use the SD card slot to update my maps?
Or do I have to update to City Navigator Europe NT 2012.20 first?

Download the 6Part, extract the gmapsupp.img file, take a 4GB SD card and:

    1) Create a folder "MAP" and put inside gmapsupp.img and gmap3d.img files (i think your navi will support the Map folder, other navi must use "Garmin"folder.
    2) Create a folder "garmin" and another one named "JCV" inside it. Take the JCV file(for your navi i think can use the one for 3790) and paste inside the JCV folder.

Insert the SD and start up, go in Settings\maps\info to see if the new map 2012.20 is loaded.
