Verbatim dual layer works like a charm. You still need a virgin key to update this way or else copying the DVD is just for backup purpose.

The original DVD is more than 12 Gb
So how do you manage to get it onto DVD
The MMCS cannot be updated from DVD

The original DVD is a dual layer having 5.5Gb occupied. It contains several updates:
    a) audio processor microcode update
    b) CAN update
    c) Gracenote CDDB update
    d) maps update
The maps consists in 641 files, named HD.001 to HD.281 (using hex numbering), are slices from a large archive. Each file has 33554432 bytes in size after decompression. After the archive is recomposed on a temporary partition in MMCS it is extracted over the navi partition.
The disk also contains other few files (control file, scripting file etc).
I have the disk image (N899K14510.ISO) made after the original disk. It will work (only with key) as many times as you wish but only on the same MMCS where the key it was used initially. It is not working without a 'virgin' key on another MMCS. It can be used to extract files to manually update the disk (after extracting and decrypting).

    Aplogies for the misunderstanding
I was referring to the upload http://gpsunderground.com/forum/show...avigation-2010
That is an ISO file of 12 Gb and indeed rather difficult to be written onto a dvd
And of course alo impossible to update the MMCS with this set of files

Is very strange that the NAVI files are compressed in such large file, but as you pointed, is impossible to have an update from a dual layer wich holds only 8.5Gb.
For those who wishes, I can set a place for them to download the ISO file. They still needs the key to update NAVI.

In my opinion, the disk may have some failures. I can help you if I see the car. First of all you have to update the OS, to restore the functionality of MMCS, then to update the NAVI.
Send me a message and I can guide you.
