Question TomTom on htc HD Touch - how to do and what to chose

I hope this is the correct forum to post my contribution - if not, please move it. Thanks.

For 1 1/2 years, I have been trying to use TomTom on my htc HD Touch - so far with no success. Instead of telling you what program and map versions I installed and what error messages I got, I would be very pleased if someone could take me by the hand and give me step by step instructions. Alternatively, links to the latest program and map versions plus installation instructions would be appreciated, too.

    Thanks for this!

I found a new navcore (ttn7.917.9186_vga_black) which I was able to install. Now, on starting TomTom, my device asks for a map activation code (I have Western_and_Central_Europe-v7.20.1803 installed). If you know, please tell me this code or let me know how to go around. Thanks a bunch!

Re: TomTom on htc HD Touch - how to do and what to chose

this guide assumes you have all the files....or you can easily get them here at GPSU......or send me a Aston Martin DB9

    Quick guide for the experienced:

-Quick guide for the more experienced (if you get stuck, look at the detailed tutorial down below):
-Download the latest TomTom Navigator for WM6
-Copy the Navigator folder from the TomTom folder to your phone's SD card (I don't suggest installing from the .cab on HTC HD2, will disable some functionality)
-Disconnect phone from PC and run TomTom navigator on your phone until it offers you to download maps
-Close TomTom navigator, connect to PC and open ttnavigator.bif in the Navigator folder with notepad
-Copy the XXXXXXXXXX part of DeviceUniqueID=XXXXXXXXXX
-Download Easyusetools, extract and paste the XXXXXXXXXX into DeviceID.txt in Easyusetools folder
-Find your map that suits for PDA & PNA and has meta data available
-Open Progs folder in Easyusetools folder and empty the contents of meta.txt, then paste your maps meta into there (two lines)
-Extract your map to a folder named "maps"
-Copy the *.meta from maps folder to Easyusetools insert_meta_from_Map_here folder
-Run RunMeforDCT and use the choise "1" twice, it should say OK
-Copy the *.dct file from insert_meta_from_Map_here to your maps folder
-Copy the maps folder to your device, disconnect phone from PC and start TomTom, it should now find the maps automatically (if it doesn't try a soft reboot on your phone)

    Slow guide for the NO-experienced:

--Download the latest TomTom Navigator for WM6
Be sure to choose VGA version (better quality).

--Unpack the file, there should be a .cab file and some folders.
Connect your phone to your PC and copy the Navigator folder to your phone's storage card.
You can install TomTom from the cab file, but this will mess up your bluetooth (which is fixable, Google it) and can also cause problems with internet sharing and ActiveSync.

--Disconnect your device from PC, open File Explorer from the phone menu, press Up until you can't, then open Storage card folder, locate the Navigator folder that you copied to the card and run TomTom Navigator.exe. Go throught all the basic configuration until it suggests you download or install maps, says maps not found or similar. Close TomTom navigator.
--Connect your phone back to your PC and locate the Navigator folder on your phone. The folder now contains the file ttnavigator or ttnavigator.bif. Open the file, choose select a program from list (or similar, NOT WEB) it should offer you a variety of programs to open it with, choose notepad.

    -Find the line:
    DeviceUniqueID=XXXXXXXXXX
Copy the XXXXXXXXXX part (and nothing else!).

    --Download EasyUseTools:
You may find newer version, but it may be a bit different in configuration, so I suggest you look for a newer one if you run into problems with the current.
--Extract the whole rar file to Desktop (or anywhere where you can easilly locate it).
Open the EasyUseTools_for_... folder and open the DeviceID or DeviceID.txt file. Paste the XXXXXXXXXX part that you copied before to this file. Make sure no spaces lead or follow the pasted part. Save and close the file.

--Now you have to locate some maps for your device.
--Locate the map that you would like (just make sure that the map isn't larger than the free space you have on your SD card, usually somewhat over 1GB with the default SD card).

--First copy the Meta.txt: TWO lines, excluding the Meta.txt: line (as shown in the example above). Now open the Progs folder inside the Easyusetools folder on your Desktop. Open the meta or meta.txt file, it will be filled with similar meta lines. Press ctrl+a and delete them all. Now paste the TWO (no more, no less!) meta lines into this file, save and close.

--If the meta isn't available or it isn't a PDA map, then look for another map. Usually there are 2-3 different versions of the same map, just find the one that has a Meta.txt and fits for PDA & PNA. If you still can't find a suitable map, look for older map versions in the forum.

-Now that you have the map on your hard drive, unpack it to Desktop/maps
Notice: These maps are usually split up zip files, you can join them with HJ-Split and then extract the new zip with your favourite program:

---Extract the archive to your Desktop into a folder called maps (create it).
Locate the maps folder and copy the file that ends with .meta to the insert_meta_from_Map_here folder in Easyusetools folder.
    Example filename:United_States-140.meta

--Open the program RunMeforDCT in Easyusetools folder. It will give you choices, just choose 1 twice (type 1, then return, type 1, then return).
--If you have done everything correctly, it should say something similar:
Keygen says OK, copy now the new *.dct into your Mapfolder.
Just press some key to exit.

--If you get some error message, then you probably skipped some step or inserted an incorrect meta or deviceId.

--Open the insert_meta_from_Map_here folder in Easyusetools folder and copy the created .dct file (for example United_States-140.meta.dct) to the maps folder located on your Desktop.

    --Only one final step:
Connect your device to your PC and copy the maps folder on your Desktop to your storage card (to the root of your storage card!).

--Now disconnect your phone from PC, locate the TomTom Navigator.exe with file explorer and start it. TomTom should offer you to choose the looks of your maps at day and at night. This means the maps are now installed and working correctly! Congratulations!

--If TomTom still offers you to download or locate maps, then turn off your phone and start it up again and run TomTom. If it still can't find your maps, make sure that the maps folder that contains the map files is in the root of your Storage Card!

--You can also easily add voices and safety camera locations to your map, just follow the instructions that come with the files:
