I have a Uniden Maptrax TRAX353 which runs on win CE core 5.0.
It is pretty useless as a standard unit because Uniden never provided any updates for the maps.
I have unlocked it and tried every trick on this forum to load up garmin maps but I have been unsuccessful.
What I want to know now is if this unit is usefull for anything else other than a paperweight.
Can the OS be upgraded?
Can the latest IGO8 maps be installed?
Can any other maps be installed?
Can any other OS be installed?
Also, I unlocked this device years ago and have lost the backup to restore back to default.
I cant seem to find the tutorial I followed online to unlock the device.
You should have no (little) trouble installing iGO, Primo or even TomTom.
There are people here that have more expertise with these than I do who I am sure will be able to help.
Thanks hashima. I read through the thread. I remember when I was going through the process of trying to install garmin someone informed me that win ce5 and win ce core 5 were slightly different and that's why the garmin hack would not work. Do you know anything about this?
I was hoping I could just wipe the flash memory and install win ce5 or 6.
I also tried to install the garmin files in that thread. I tried the sd card method and also tried installing direct to flash memory. In both cases, when I click on garmin.exe all I get is a beep. I waited some 10 min for something to happen, but nothing.
I've installed garmin mobile xt, version 5.00.20 & 5.00.30 on about a dozen different gps running win ce core 5. There are however some gps with win ce core 5 that are more problematic to install garmin than others. The problematic ones, I noticed have com port and gps port assignment which somehow clashes with the garmin software. You could either search the different forums for a garmin hack that will exactly suit your hardware, or tinker with the garmin startup script(garmin.mscr). Sometimes even do both.
To avoid all that hassle, I just install either iGo8 or iGo Primo. They are about the easiest navi software to install in just about any gps hardware, ce5 or ce6.
Installing garmin is more favourable as I already have all the cities topo's and bluecharts. Plus I have never tinkered with iGo before.
Is tinkering with the garmin startup script something you could guide me through? Now that I kno it can be done on core 5 I am keen to try again.
Sorry been a bit busy. Here's Garmin for five different 350x240 gps. Download and rename the main folder to just Garmin. They have been stripped down to just bare bones. Test first with just basemap (gmapbmap.img). Don't forget to run garmin_keygen to fully activate the software. They have all been tested to run on sdcard only. Don't know if they will work with internal memory.
When Garmin starts up on your device, go to Tools/Settings/About to get the card ID. Then run keygen on a PC to generate the software unlock code, and copy and paste to the Garmin/sw.unl file.
