Re: Porsche PCM1-16 bit Update 2010-2011
Do you have any idea of the time it takes to upgrade the software? In my 98" 996 it has been for over 10 minutes, sometimes turning off/switching on automaticaly and i don't know if this is normal. The cd noise continues.
Cheers

mikept2004, your system is probably 8 bit, I think 996 changed to 16 bit around early 2001 (somehow I remember March 2001, but can't find the reference anymore).

Hi SprintStar
This is a long shot but have you still got the old GB CD for the Porsche 996 - we have just bought a car and it has no disc?

Re: Porsche PCM1-16 bit Update 2010-2011
Hi all,
As others have said, the firmware update works fine if you just follow the instructions and have the correct system. Mine is a PCM 1.0 16 bit in a Feb 2002 C4S so if you have a PCM 1.0 8 Bit or any other version (2.0 forward) it will not work and need to move on.
I seem to remember that there are two parts to the upgrade (no impact needed by the user) and can take quite some time. There is boot-loader and a upgrade part and all is shown on the screen with a bar and percentage where in the process the upgrade is.
The system restarts when all is done. There is no visible change after the upgrade other than you can use the maps as included in the d/l's.
I have not tried the original Central Europe CD that came with the car after the upgrade but only the updated d/l disc for Alpes where I currently reside.
