Question Renault Espace 2005 - GPS not responding

    Hi Folks

My GPS was working really fine, now all of a sudden it won't respond. It starts-up with the warning message and the "OK" prompt, but the buttons on the console don't respond so it's just stuck on the startup screen.

Anyone else experienced this or have any idea how I may resolve it?

    Cheers
    DAB

Oh sorry, it's the built-in CD based Renault Navteq Carminat system...

i guess it is a cni1, the knob sometimes dies, it can be either replaced (the control panel) or resoldered and will work again. we have fixed similar issues serveral times. try to resolder it, nothing to lose, if you screw it up you are still free to get a new one from the dealership for arund EUR200 or a secondhand one for a bargain

I took the console off to check that nothing had come unplugged and it all looked in good order. I'll disconnect all the cables and take a closer look at the knob.

Ok, I got this resolved. In fact on closer inspection I noticed that the "-" volume button looked somewhat odd, turns out it was stuck down due to some milk my wife spilled. So thus button being depressed and stuck was blocking the whole control panel. I pulled the button out with my fingernail and the GPS is now fine. Now I need to get some switch-cleaner to remove the remnants of the mill spill.

Nah, not from the boobies I'm afraid, that'd be too kinky. My son likes cold milk (he's 4) and of course the place to store it is in the cup-holders... right next to the GPS controls!

But thanks for the discussion, it prompted me to look closer rather than relying on a garage and in the end it was simple.
