Short answer to that, NO, do not change your navcore, 8.412 is a good navcore without fault, why change anything if it ain't broke.

I concur with the navcore. I had 8.417 (similar) and 8.562 on my 700 and both were fine.
The map on the other hand you can upgrade to Europe 850.2800. It should fit entirely on 2,5 GB.
If you replace the Cspeech*.dat files with empty dummy files, there is even room for VocalizerTTS.

I have a TT720 and 730. I am currently running the official navcore 8.351 and all is sweet.
Im question is if there is no reason to run any higher navcore version (like 9.x), why are there many people running it?

    ..because they can.
    ..because it is there.
    ..because the graphics are nicer.

On the other hand, they tend to lose functions like Auto day/night switching, EPT (920/930), TMC (if they do not set x40 mode) etc etc...
For those reasons, it is best to stick with the original (but patched) navcore.

Older and cheaper models (Go x00, x10, One, One XL) tend to gain more than they lose, since they can obtain Texttospeech, ALG, IQRoutes with little effort.
Best Texttospeech results are with VocalizerTTS, since it uses less resources than LoquendoTTS and does not require to be cracked.

are the graphics in the map nicer? or just the graphics in the interface as in the menus?

Both map and menu are smoother in version 9.
The maps are already improved on when running 8.4 and higher: A new Anti-Aliasing function was introduced then. In NC 9 it is smoother still, but when you run it on a 266MHz/32MB device, it will be less smooth because of the raw speed of the device.
Make a backup of what you have now (Windows Explorer backup, not TTHome!) and experiment away.
