Post TomTom XL Classic Support SDHC Card?

Hi there guys, first of, what a great site full of useful information and helped me in abundance updating my friends TomTom GO 720 with the Central European Truck Maps , All i'd like to know is whether the TomTom XL Classic Supports a 4gb SDHC Card as iv read mixed stuff, Some saying it does support it, And some say it doesnt, If anyone could verify it does/doesnt work it would be very much appreciated

Thanks for taking your time to read this...

    Mike

Open the file called "ttgo.bif" with notepad, its found in the root of the navcore.
Look to see what your bootloader version number is (Example 5.5136)
Most bootloaders over version 5.5012 support 4Gb and upwards
    TomTom Go730 + Bootloader 5.5229 + Navcore SE 9485 + Latest UK Map
Garmin Zumo 660LM + Latest Firmware and Maps
    Windows Ultimate 7 64bit + OCZ-SSD + i7 2600K @ 4.6 GHz + 2GB Radeon HD 6970 + 8GB DDR3 1600MHz

Hello again, just checked which bootloader is installed and its version 5.3026, would this mean it wouldnt support SDHC? If i upgrade the navcore will this in effect update the bootloader too?

    Thanks for your help!!

5.3026 is in effect too old. You can try and connect to Tomtom home to see if a newer navcore is offered which might have a newer navcore, but if the newest navcore is 8.010, it has 5.5011 which is not enough.
You can get the bootloader 5.5128 by downloading the navcore for the newer XL LIVE from tomtom itself:
That navcore will not work with your Tomtom, you will need an SE version of this 8.412 instead, or of the 8.560/8.562, but the bootloader in this archive is quite useful.
Extract the file called system from the cab and load it on your current small SD card. Make sure that the battery is fully charged before doing this. Reboot the tomtom and the bootloader upgrades to 5.5128 which enables reading of SDHC cards.

With Navcore SE 8.412 or SE 8.562 the sky (or actually the 32 MB) is the limit. You can even install VocalizerTTS.

Hi again, You mention installing the navcore onto the small sd card, i dont actually have a sd card in at the minute the software is currently installed on the tomtom memory (1gb) should i install the new navcore onto the tom tom itself or would it be easier installing it onto a small sized sd card?

Again your help is really appreciated

5.5128 is the recommended bootloader for the TT one using 4Gb SDHC and upwards

    Hi Mike,

I mentioned the old SD card as an example, since you cannot load a bootloader for SDHC support on an SDHC card (chicken <--> egg situation).
You can however load the system file on the internal memory of your Tomtom, let it reboot and after that you can use SDHC cards. The bootloader will be written into the EPROM memory of your Tomtom (a sort of BIOS chip) which enables it to read SDHC cards.

    Hi again heijx,

thanks very much for your reply, will try it at the weekend installing the new bootloader/navcore and hopefully ill have some success , just one more quick question, if i install Navcore SE 8.412 or SE 8.562 onto my TomTom XL Classic would the Western_and_Central_Europe_TRUCK_V835_2472 work with the Navcore, i presume it would?

Again thank you for your help in all this

    Mike
