    Re: Sd Card Speedtest Thread

    Here are a couple of test results. The cardreader I used is a Transcend Compact Reader S5. The benchmarks have been performed using HD Tune Pro 4.60 > File Benchmark > File length = 32 MB.
    The two SanDisk cards are SD cards, the Transcend one is an SDHC card. Does someone know what the read speed of the internal cardreader of the TT is?

    Thanks for that Megalos, you prompted me to test my SanDisk 4 GB Extreme lll card I use for my photographic work.
    Its suppossed to be the fastest card available, and it cost 4 times as much as the Kingston class 6 I use in my TomTom.
    And guess what, it tested slower using HD Tune Pro 4.60, I won't be buying anymore of them.

    Mm, that's strange. The SanDisk Extreme III is supposed to be faster. How did you test in HDTP? Did you set the File length to 32 MB? Could you give the numbers (or the graphs)?

    I tested my Kingston class 6 4Gb SDHC first and got the same results as your Transend, testing exactly as you did.
    Then tested my Extreme lll the same, and it did'nt get above 20 MB/s.
    I then tested all my Extreme's, as I have several and they were all the same results, very dissapointed with SanDisk.

    Okay, thanks for the test results. I always thought that the Extreme III cards would be very fast, but that's a wrong assumption apparently.

    Re: Sd Card Speedtest Thread

    Hello,
    Some personal tests.

    I compare the throughput of internal flash vs SD cards, during transferts to/from the PC.

    GO730
    <------------------------------------------------>
    CPU
    |
    SD <------+=> Memory controller <---> USB bridge <---> USB <---> PC
    Flash <----'

    Internal flash:
    Read: 721 Mb (1 file) 161s -> 4.5 Mb/s (to PC)

    Transcend SD 2Go 133x:
    Write: 700 Mb (1 file) 306s -> 2.29 Mb/s (to SD)
    Read: 700 Mb (1 file) 118s -> 5.94 Mb/s (to PC)
    Read: 1.04 Gb (some MP3 files) 184s -> 5.78 Mb/s (to PC)

    Lexar Premium SDHC 8Go 60x class 4:
    Write: 1.366 Gb (1 file) 429s -> 3.25 Mb/s (to SD)
    Read: 1.366 Gb (1 file) 243s -> 5.70 Mb/s (to PC)

    Silicon power SDHC 4Go class 10:
    Read: 900 Mb (1 file) 49s -> 18.36 Mb/s (to PC, via SD card reader Transcend M5)
    Read: 900 Mb (1 file) 157s -> 5.73 Mb/s (to PC)
    Write: 900 Mb (1 file) 350s -> 2.57 Mb/s (to SD)
