Sorry if this reply does not go down well. I have tried to post it elsewhere but can't because my account is not 5 days old and I don't have 5 posts (how on earth can I have 5 posts if I'm not allowed to post anywhere!?).
I have used the search function and have been browsing the Tutorials section of the forum for the last 2 hours I have no clue what I am doing!
I am a complete novice, I am computer literate but do not understand how this thing works. In short, I want my TomTom XL (30) 'Europe 22' to have a more up-to-date UK map. All of the guides contradict each other or miss out/assume certain parts which I just do not follow at all.
My Device = AK*** A****
App: 8.014 (9372/*****) (is this bit required?)
Map: 'Western_europe_1GB' v725.1905
I have no idea as to which tools I am supposed to download, the video guide has 'Advanced Easytools' and his Australia map already downloaded. Does the navcore number HAVE to match up with the one that is showing on my device? If so I can't find one that says what mine says...very confused.
I then had a browse to try and find the program the guy used and instead there is an abundance of different things, FastActivate etc. (I have no clue which one I need!?)
I do apologise, it must be annoying to read if you know what you're doing but if someone could just 'hold my hand' as it were and guide me through it I would really appreciate it.
Hi, Sorry to jump in on another thread but I'm having very similar problems. Also sorry as I'm a new, I have read other threads and searched the forum but that has unfortunately on made me more confused.
Model: Tom Tom One 3nd edition
Navcore: 8.010 (9369/080529)
Map: United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland v830.2306
I'd simply like to update the map and the speed camera db, but I'm having no luck at all. I've downloaded and run Fastactivate, patched the navcore but cant find the right map for my device. Some of the maps say 2gb, and my device size is only 512k. I'm completely baffled! Please help!
Is there a tutorial somewhere? IE start to finish? I keep getting a "You cannot use this map" error after downloading the latest map and meta.
Just in case any kind soul wishes to take pity upon me, I downloaded the 875_3673 United States map. I used the autoactivate.exe (as there is a meta for it from what I can see) and uploaded the map contents into the TomTom XL that I have, into the directory "United_States".

The new map should be in its own FOLDER; NOT inside another!
I am finding that when I use JDownloader, (I have just d/loaded the USA map using this as an example), It has automatically extracted the rar file but nested the USA folder inside another folder called USA.
If peeps are not aware of this, they are going to be very confused as to whats gone wrong.
I've found this out occasionally before. Move the "real" map folder out to the root then delete the empty "shell folder" it was in.
Whos download link did you use?
I already knew about the nesting bit. I was just trying to point it out as the link i used was from http://gpsunderground.com/forum/tomt...75_3673-a.html and it was extracted automatically one folder inside the other.
Presumably that is how the original uploader (Chillycat I think) had it on his HDD before uploading.
I actually used the link from Rotson
You will notice that the Europe map has also been nested upon automatic extraction.
Hope this helps

To get here, you will have been on the page where it is..
Its not an easy thing to do, even for those who are up to speed with pc's. I've read many pages, compatibility charts and such, and still had no joy. The bloody map numbers (which seem to be inconsistent throughout, until you know how to deal with them) are more than enough to confuse a newbie.
I'm quite savvy with pc's, but still I cant get my tt to update.
I've still had no joy, but thank you to biggerdave for the quick and helpful reply. I meant to thank you sooner, but took your advice, spent an hour looking at it, lost patience and closed the pc.
It seems I might be out of luck due to my old satnav. cheers anyway.
Deleted my old map folder from my tt, downloaded the 875_3675 UK & ROI map, patched my Navcore with FastActivate Premium, updated meta.txt with FastActivate Premium and made sure that the meta code thing is in there (which it is), used the 'Maps/Voices/Speedcams' and 'TTHOME' buttons on FastActivate Premium just in case I needed those, gone on to my tt and it says that 'You cannot use this map on this device: United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland'
Where have I gone wrong???
EDIT: Seems as though the map works on my actual tt, but not on Home on the computer
