trying to fix a go 910 with hard drive failure, the fault occured when trying to update his with new maps/navcore but halfway through the unit ran out of power DOH, so could not complete .When reconnecting got the dreaded red X when switching on which normally means hard drive failure, it has a 20 gig internal toshiba HD, so is it possible to fit another drive from a different unit with software already on there and it will work ok, or if i get a new HD will it be a case of just plug in and away you go, did a bit of reading on the net and some suggestion that as it will have no files on i would need a zif to usb adaptor to transfer files to it first
If the hard drive is a compact flash sized hard drive, you could put it in a card reader and reformat it, then restore from your backup. They have an incredibly long life, so it is probably only the data that is corrupt. My 1GB MicroDrive is still running fine since 2002 with no problems, it just is a bit slow by today's standards, and small. It is used daily in a Psion Series 7 that thinks it is a Netbook

If I remember correctly it happened to my go910 a few time ago.
I think you should try with the factory reboot first :
I go by memory here but should be something like:
1- press the reset for 30sec
2- then press the start for 10 seconds while pressing the reset then release.
Probably the needed times are shorter than what I wrote but to be safe try that.
