I have never updated my maps.
So I'm trying to understand how to do this, and have a few questions. I have read many of the FAQ's.
**Which is my Navcore? I dont understand which it is ? Is it 850.2784?? Is it actually CurrentMapVersion.
DeviceName=TomTom XXL IQ Routes Edition
DeviceVersionHW=ONE XXL IQ Routes
**Once I get my Navcore I dont understand how to use the charts? Can someone explain to me how to read the charts? If I read it right, and my NAVCOR is 850.2784 then does this mean that i CAN USE Version 9.1 OR 9.2 MAPS? If I read the charts right??
**It seems there are two difference methods for updating. One FAQ titled "7 simple steps to update your device with the latest map " seems to just have you update the map folder on your device. However another faq titled Clean install - how to install the latest maps and navcore from scratch.
When is 7 steps used and when is clean install used? I asume ? I use the 7 steps. (but dont really know)
**What does the fastactivate do ? There is no expanation, (that I can find) what fastactivate actually does ??
** By the way is it true that the search function on this site only works if you search for one word. I tried searching for these answers but when i put in something like find navecor or other two word searches it comes up with nothing, Im asuming this question has been asked before yet nothing comes back.
Your navcore is 9.061
Do NOT change it, it's perfect for an XXL.
Your current map is 850.2784
The latest maps are 880.xxxx
With your navcore 9.061, you can use any of these maps.
The xxxx at the end tells you which features the map holds.
Some maps have ALG (advanced lane guidance) or IQ , some not. (these are usually for older devices)
You will probably want a map with all features, except HNR (only for a few exotic countries)
880.3810 would be the best choice.
As said above, just update your map, don't touch the navcore.
The maps you download here have to be 'cracked' in order to use them on your device.
Fastactivate (and others) will do that for you.
You will also have to patch your navcore, again using one of the tools available here
Thank you this is extremely informative and I hope it will fill in the gaps for others also. Particularly the navcore thing. Since on mine it says App or ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=9061. Not Navcore. I think that will help others who may be confused.
Everything you have said seems clear to me, accepted the patching comment?
When you say that at the end it has to be patched do you mean to say that this is part of the Fastactivate Premium edition process E.G. in the 7 steps it mentions to use the Fastactivate, during this process it says to use all 4 options when running the Fastactivate. The 4 Options are "Update meta, activate maps, patch navcore & home" Is this the “patch” you are talking about or is there another program I should use as well as the Fastactivate Premium edition after I’m done. I see a program called “DSA Tool, a Professional TomTom v7/v8/v9 Patcher “ is that what I should run, or is it already done in the Fastactivate Premium.
BTW what is it patching?
Before you can use a downloaded map, the map has to be matched/patched with your device (each TT has an unique id)
There are many tools around which basically do the same things: make sure you can use a downloaded map on your TT.
There are simple ones and ones with a lot of bells and whistles for the adventurous among us. (like the DSA tool)
I use Albert's Easy Activator - because I find it Easy to use.
If you like Fastactivate, that's OK!
Use the same tool to patch both the map and navcore, no need to use different tools.

The only reason I suggest Fastactivate is because the 7 steps suggests it.
Im just following the FAQ. So I think what your saying is fastactivate will patch it as it states in the faq.
Just follow the steps there.
If anyone else has anything to add to make it as painless as possible feel free to contribute.
