Can I use Latest Western Map & Truck Map?

I'm new to all this & wondering if I can use the latest Truck & Western Maps?

I have a TomTom GO520 (Which I will delete all internal folders) 8GB SD Card (Which will have the NAVCORE folders & MAP folders with SPEEDCAM on aswell)

My reason for asking is that I'm a Firefighter & I drive the Fire Engines - this is why I want to use the TRUCK map but when I'm not at work I'd like to use the device normally for a car

Thanks in advance for anyones help

    Yes you can.
You don't need to delete anything from the internal memory. Install the Truck navcore and truck map on the SD card, then patch everything.
When the card is inserted, it will run the Truck navcore and truck map. When you remove the SD you will have the device back to normal (as you said, "for a car").

Re: Can I use Latest Western Map & Truck Map?

Thanks Lemon - the problem I have is when I started to try & play around with my GO520 I tried using TT Home to backup & Restore through a Macbook Pro. When I obviously my 1st go at this didn't work I wiped everything & tried to restore my backup which leaves my device at the Hard Drive Red X Screen.

So what I was wondering is weather I can put all the folders on the SD Card, as the GO only has 64 MB RAM & 512 MB Internal Storage or do I have to split them up & I've wasted money on an 8GB SD Card LOL

Yes, you can have all the folders and files on the SD card. What you cannot do is have 2 navcores on the same card, and you can't have a Truck navcore running a Car map nor can you have a Car navcore running a Truck map.

You can have the Car navcore and map in the internal memory (if they both fit). Otherwise you can install them on a 2nd SD card. Then just switch SD cards accordingly.

Re: Can I use Latest Western Map & Truck Map?

Thanks again for the quick reply

Can you help me install the map I need in the right way as I don't want to get it wrong & be without SATNAV LOL

So as you know I have blank internal & SD Card Memory.

    1. Download - What Western Europe MAP is the Latest? What NAVCORE do I need? What do I need to PATCH to make it all work? I have also the latest SPEEDCAMS which I want to work

    2. HOW TO - How do I then put this altogether to work

What I have downloaded so far is: Dump x10 8.398, Europe_TRUCK_880_3845, FastActivate_04.02.2012_Premium_edition_v1.8.8.1, Speedcams, Truck Meta.

All the above is to get the TRUCK stuff working as I'm a fireman & want to use it for the fire engines - what do I need for a 2nd SD Card for getting the normal car SATNAV going again?

Can this all be on the 2 SD Cards & nothing running off the Device at all?

Hope you don't mind me PM you?

    Many Thanks

    1) Western_Europe_885_4009 map is what you need. Note that it's over 2GB, so you'll need an SDHC card 4GB or larger:

    http://gpsunderground.com/forum/tomt...inks-only.html

    2) Follow the clean install tutorial very carefully:

TUTORIAL: Clean Install - How to install the latest map and navcore from scratch!

    3) You have downloaded the correct truck navcore and truck map. Follow the above clean install tutorial on the 2nd SD card, except leave out steps 3, 4, 5, & 7. Instead of these steps, copy paste the entire contents of the truck navcore directly onto your 2nd SD card, then continue with the rest of the tutorial.

As mentioned, 1) and 2) are for your normal "car" map and navcore on your 1st SDHC card.

    4) You can have as many SD or SDHC cards as you wish. You don't need anything in the internal memory of the device.
