That's right. When copying a new bootloader on startup the system file on the SDCARD will write the new loader to TT internal flashmemory.

Only ttsystem is visible, but that's not the bootloader, it's a part of the Navigator.
So after all, don't worry not having a system file. If you copy a newer system file to the device I'll see the writing progress on the screen anyhow.
After that you see the new bootloader version by 'Status and Information'
