hi i have a tomtom 550 live which i pay for hd traffic it's now coming up for renewel do a RDS-TMC receiver do the same thing but for free i don't mine having the extra wire if so can i fit one to my tomtom
No with HDT you get information from main and secondairy road frequently.
With RDS/TMC in principal you only get it for the Main roads (no secondairy).
And it depend strongly how quick the radiostations refresh the information.
So if you need trafficinformation frequently (daily) stay with HDT.
If you only use it occasionally (holyday,s etc) then RDS?TMC is good enough.
cheers holyhead i only use it for holidays and the odd days out so i think the rds/tmc traffic receiver should be the one for me would love to here peoples view on the rds/tmc traffic receiver good/bad as a mount with built in receiver is £49 before i buy
come on some one must have some feed back on if a RDS-TMC receiver is any good or not
Yes they are excellent. I have used them on all models including the x50 and they are excellent. I wouldn't pay a subscription. I've used mine all across Europe without any problem except in Switzerland.
In UK the signal piggybacks on the Classic FM frequency so it is pretty good everywhere these days.
