    TomTom GO 910 - can´t start

    Hi,

I´ve got hold of a 910 very cheap (if I can get to run!).
It boots until the startup screen where the TT is shown along with the modelname (in text) and a sound (drumroll ?).
No red crosses ore other gimmicks ....

I´ve tried to reset in 30 secs, no good.

TTT Home can´t see the unit, and Windows Explorer can´t either.

When the "cradle" is connected to the PC, must the green light be on then? (charging through the USB-cable).

There is no green light when connected to the PC, only when charging through the wall connector.

The unit can´t be turned off, so the only way to shut down is to reset the unit.

Is this a unit problem or a cable problem?

    I just read your problems.
It seems to me that your harddisk is broken.
I've a GO910 too and never discovered this problem, but sometimes I discover a read error on the disk, I'm wondering when mine will stop.
I think normaly the GO190 start from an eprom or rom (bootloader) and then want to read something from disk, but if there's no disk ...................
You see no disk with Home either with Explorer, this problem has to be solved first, normaly the GO190 is seen as an external disk.

When connected with the cradle charge only will take place when DC is connected to the cradle, otherwise the GO910 will only work with enough power in the battery.

I must somehere have a manual how to open the GO190, I think it must be somewhere at this forum too.
In case you need it, don't hesitate, just send me an e-mail at pe1agp@xs4all.nl

Thanks, even though the item prices are OK, then the postage is too steep ...
I will have to look elsewhere!

    Hi Chopstix

there is aprogram called D-ban which erases hard drive information I have used it to recovery hard drives in the past as it writes 000000000 to the hard drive and in doing so can write over damaged sectors or sectors that are corrupt failing that if you look on a certain auction site and put in G910 new hard drive you find one for £24 hope this helps

the 10 series have a board fault which stops the battery charging, just because the green light is on does not mean its charging, there is a guy on fleabay uk who repairs the 10 series and his feedback is good, he does a no repair no charge service so should be worth a look.

    Hi Chopsticks,

Just for your information, I've ordered today this replacement.
SDHC cards are much cheaper than Compactflash cards.
An even more GREAT advantage is that you're able to switch the cards easy without opening the whole box.

They are on stock so I'm wondering how quick the adaptor will arrive.

    Best regards,
