Go 700 not accepting 16GB CF cards
I think I pushed one of my old Go 700's a step too far.
With ever growing maps, i decided that perhaps my 8GB CF was a little too small for holding the world maps plus a few mp3's for when nothing is on the radio.
So I saw an offer for a Transcend 133x 16GB CF card and purchased it.
I copied across my maps and navcore (9.465) and booted. Hang!
Booted again, ok until it tries to load the map (guess).
Ok, delete the map and see what happens.
Go 700 is stable and sits for as long as you need it too telling you "No map found".
Reboot, same occurs, can't get it to hang when a map is not installed.
Put a map back on, Hang!
So I decided to do a little digging.
Ran diagnostics on the Go 700 (Press power then press again as soon as you see the screen wake up)
Diagnostics reported the CF as 0MB in size!
Placed my old 8GB CF in and run diagnostics. 8GB plus the CF card manufacturer are seen on screen.
Placed the new 16GB CF card back in and run diagnostics. 0MB again and the manufacturer of the card is missing.
But, the Go 700 can boot from the CF card and hangs on large I/O.
How strange. I very much doubt I have a bad CF card but perhaps more hit the upper limit of the Go 700. I didn't think that was possible ;-)
I tried formatting the card with a few different cluster sizes to see if the allocation table was just too big for the Go but no Go.
I went as high as 32k clusters and still the Go hangs when reading in lots of data.
What is the highest CF card others have fitted to their Tom Tom or perhaps hard disk?
I do remember a Go coming out with a 20GB but the model number escapes me as do the specifications.
Perhaps you all could share your Tom Tom Go 700 upgrade stories?
