What files make up a map?

After reading many of the threads and stickies on these forums, I came to find myself asking 1 question repeatedly...what files/folders make up a map?

So far, I've compared what came on my TT XL335 with the following 2 map updates:

    North America_2GB_860_3101
    and
    USA_and_Canada_1GB_860_3127

Obviously, the TT came with some installers for WIN/MAC.
As well as a bundle of other folders.

The updates above however, vary only slightly.
    Both contain the following items:

    a directory named:
    /brand

    files named:
    cline.dat
    cname.dat
    cnode.dat
    cphoneme.dat
    faces.dat
    faces.met
    mapinfo.dat
    NAME_OF_MAP_SIZE.pna
    NAME_OF_MAP_SIZE-###.meta
    poi.dat
    profiles.dat
    tables.dat
    tmccodes.dat
    traffic.dat

The biggest difference is the North_America_2GB_860_3101
contains 54 files (1 for each state/territory/country) named: cspeech_NJ.dat (NJ is an example)

If the uploader was generous, with the release came .nfo file and a meta file.

So my question is, what are the purpose of the 54 files mentioned above?
It's my understanding these files are for speech recognition. Since the XL335 does not have speech input they are not required for my specific model.
Obviously, they were included for more advanced models. Correct?

Additionally, what files/folders can be shed from a TT to make room for them?
Finally, below is a print output for the entire TT when connected via usb.
What can be kept and what can be removed?
It appears I have a few directories that are normally included for more advanced TT devices; such as phone directory and 3-4 other folders?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Yes, that's correct.

You can delete the LoquendoTTS folder if you don't need it. Also, you can remove some voices from the voices folder. How big is your internal memory, 1GB? If so, you should look for another map. For example the USA 860.3126 (773 MB).

2GB internal memory on this model. The map mentioned above installed and activated just fine...without the 54 voice recognition files. No need as they are clearly for more elite model TTs.

I have the 1GB maps as well -- grabbed them both for keeping all of my options open and to help other TT owners in the future.

What exactly does the LoquendoTTS folder do/used for? The Loquendo site doesn't give too much information -- as far as I can tell its a synth/codec used to convert text to speech for foreign languages?

These forums don't fully explain Loquendo -- only how to install them/it and what to do once they are on your device. I appreciate you replying to this thread. It's helpful to me and I'm sure to people in the future.

Yes, LoquendoTTS is for text-to-speech. It pronounces street names and names of cities etc. (in a variety of languages, also English). For 32MB RAM devices, there is an alternative: VocalizerTTS. That one is much lighter (but Loquendo's quality is a little better).

Re: What files make up a map?

So for future clarifications, the following items make up a basic map:

    1) directory named:

    /brand

    2) files named:

    cline.dat
    cname.dat
    cnode.dat
    cphoneme.dat
    faces.dat
    faces.met
    mapinfo.dat
    NAME_OF_MAP_SIZE.pna
    NAME_OF_MAP_SIZE-###.meta
    poi.dat
    profiles.dat
    tables.dat
    tmccodes.dat
    traffic.dat

Re: What files make up a map?

Yes, but it differs from map to map. Some maps also have the following files:

    crpoi.dat
    cspeech_XXX.dat (XXX = country/state code)
