Re: Tomtom go 630 backup files to copy and paste onto your gps

I hope you didn't just copy all the contents of your TomTom drive into these files. I haven't downloaded them to check, but if you have done so, then these backups won't work for other people. With TomToms, you can't just copy someone's entire drive and copy paste it into another. There is a unique serial number in each device and each one has to be patched individually. Therefore, if anyone was to simply copy this into their TomTom GO, it will come up with an error and can't be used.

Nevertheless, what you have done is gather all the files needed for patching. The only things you should remove from your uploads are:

    1) .dct files from the map folder
    2) the file: mapsettings.cfg from the map folder (this contains your favorites, your recent destinations, custom sounds and other custom settings)
    3) ttgo.bif file (this is unique to each device - it contains your serial number)

After installing your backup with the above files removed, the user would need to restart the TomTom once to create their own new ttgo.bif file needed for patching. Then after switching it off, they will need to run FastActivate to create new .dct files of their own.

Yes that is what i've done. Copy my entire drive from the tom tom .
I did have fast activate in there so can they paste them into there drive and then run the fast activate to patch.
And yes i had to put the files on the tom tom and then turn it on at least once for the bif file to be loaded.
Once that was done. I had to run the fast activate. and all was good.
Thanks for you correction. I'm new at this and thouight i would try and help.
One other thing now i have lane zoom in which i never had before on the freeway.
It was supposed to do it but never did. Now it does.
So yes you are correct. Paste the files then turn on tom tom once .
Then run fastactivate, that should work.
    I stand corrected.
