I always stick to the well known brands, i.e. Kingston, Sandisk and Transcend. Preferably use Class 6 or 10

Tomtom is not a high speed application.
They connect to the outside world using USB 1.1 - that says a lot. (not sure about the via and go100X)
Normally any kind of know brand SD card will do just fine.
No need to spend money on class 6 or upper, there's just no benefit there - waste of money.

At present I run a SanDisk class 4.

In the past I ran a SanDisk class 2 without any problems.

USB speed is not related to SDHC read speed. Whether a TomTom is USB 1.1 or 2.0 only affects the transfer speeds when plugging into a computer using a USB cable, hence the term USB 1.1 or USB 2.0. This refers to transfering files from your computer to your TomTom device or vice versa.

The faster the read speed of an SDHC card, the more smoothly and faster it will run with less or no lag. A Class 2 SDHC card does have noticeable lag, especially when compared to a Class 6 or 10 card. Most Class 4 cards should be ok, but a card with the highest available read speed is always preferred. The higher the Class, the higher the read speed.

Ok, I did not consider internal/external speeds.
Just assumed that slow external would also mean slow internal, but as I have no tech specs to support that, so I might be wrong there.
