I also have the old TomTom ONE v1, 3.5 inch screen with 32Mb RAM and only an SD card slot, no internal memory. I have it working superfast, even better than it was straight out of the box. You don't need a new device if your ONE is just running slow. You just need the right navcore that works well with your model.

I've tried tons of navcores, nearly all 8xxx and 9xxx versions many times. I have found the 8.562 SE to be the most compatible and the fastest of the lot. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. I get 8Mb free RAM when booting the device and everything runs smoothly. Everything including the menu buttons and recalculating works faster than ever before.

    All you need is:

    1) A full current backup of your device
    2) 8.562 SE navcore
    3) The latest full featured 865_3245 map for your country
    4) FastActivate Premium Edition (latest version)

    Hi lemonfish,
    Thanks for your reply
    I will try that :

    1) A full current backup of your device
    2) 8.562 SE navcore
    3) The latest full featured 865_3245 map for your country
    4) FastActivate Premium Edition (latest version)

I have no pb for points 1 and 3
But i thought that it was not a good deal to change the navcore if this one is not proposed by tomtom home?
Is there any tuto about changing the navcore?
Where can I find it and which one should I take?
List of navcores available in forum.

Good point. The official navcore for your device is usually the best, as it is specific for that particular model. In your case though, the latest official navcore for the TomTom ONE v1 is 7.903 (or 8.010 for the wider 4.3 inch screen ONE XL). The problem with that is you won't be able to use the full featured 3245 map which includes features like IQ, ALG and Cspeech. Instead, with the official 7.903 navcore you can use the basic 3246 map which won't give you features like IQ and ALG. If those features are not important to you, then the basic 3246 map will work fine with your official navcore.

I'm sure there are tuturials out there about installing navcores. It's very simple. Simply copy the entire contents of the navcore into your TomTom drive.

You will need FastActivate Premium Edition to activate your map and patch your navcore. Without this step, you won't be able to use your new map.

Let me know how it all goes and if you need further detailed help in upgrading your device.

Re: which is the best tomtom

Perhaps I will try to upgrade the navcore
My major problem is that my V1 is very slow to find the GPS signal
That's why I was looking for buying a new one

The Quick GPS Fix update in TomTom HOME should fix that. I usually get a strong GPS signal in less than a minute, sometimes in just seconds. Of course it can depend on your location and the weather.

Install TomTom HOME and check for updates while your device is plugged in the computer.

I still prefer the 8.562 SE for the reasons mentioned above - both features and speed.

Good to hear it's working better than ever!
You have the best current map available so far. v870 maps should be coming out very soon, probably by the end of this month.

IQ routes means Intelligent Routing - a special feature by TomTom that guides you to the fastest routes according to the time of day.

Cspeech means spoken addresses, where you actually say aloud the destination you want to go to. The device detects the address without needing to type it in, almost completely handsfree. Unfortunately the TomTom ONE does not have a microphone, so this function cannot be used. Nevertheless, you have all the other functions that are now possible on your old (about 5 year old) but still quite reliable TomTom model.
