Unable to get updates from TomTom.com

For the last two days TTHome2 has failed to connect to the TT website for updates (map, POIs, QuickGPSfix), error:

"The following problem occurred. You can continue, but functionality may not be available.
Error when contacting server: The connection to the TomTom server timed out."

When I access tomtom.com with, Firefox, Opera and IE8, all "hang", failing to connect and the same has just happened trying to access the link, in an email I've just received from TT, advertising TT chargers working from car ciggy lighter. So I think the problem is not connected with my GO, but either tomtom.com or my PC. But I've no problem accessing other sites. . .

I've checked all three browsers, tomtom.com is not denied internet access, nor is it in my firewall, ZoneAlarm.

    Ideas?

Re: Unable to get updates from TomTom.com

This what I got yesterday am.
After I clicked "Update and Install" I got the timeout error, which has not gone away and I cannot connect to the tomtom website to try a fresh download of TTHome2.

None of my three browsers will connect to tomtom.com nor update my GO using TT Home2 (still).

This looks like a PC problem to me.

Make sure there is no entry for tomtom.com in your "hosts" file.
    This would block your connection.
Location is depending on your OS, but try "\windows\system32\drivers\etc"

If you are running XP/Vista/W7, I would suggest to do a system restore to a date prior of your problems.
Again, depending on your OS, but try clicking on "start" and run "restore"
This will not erase any data on your PC, just resets some system files which might solve the problem

    In order of doing:
Reset my router, all OK - can now access tomtom.com and have updated my GO; then read this thread.

Checked "hosts" file; no entry for tomtom.com, but will try to remember this tip if I get the problem again.

Thanks for the help; Mods:Please close this thread.
