Re: Is it possible to activate tomtom LIVE without paying?
If they were to give you it for free for, say a year, they would post you a voucher code to your home address. This voucher code can be used once, and once only and it is related directly to the unit you have. So theoretically you can get if for free, but usually the voucher codes are given for a specific reason. Be it marketing or in lieu of payment for some service or skill that you have donated to them, in which case it is not strictly free. How the voucher code works, I do not know or really care. But I have been given one for 2 years in the past as a thank you and one for two years of free maps. The first map update gave me every single GO map, but subsequently has only been for UK and ROI. One reason that the meta codes were given so quickly in version 860 I think it was.
The reason it would be hard to crack a voucher code is because we do not know to what it relates or how it works. With the speedcams, fuel prices, maps and voices etc, we do
The practicalities of cracking the blowfish codes are the time it takes and the amount of storage incorrect codes take up and the means to run the software.
For instance, for a very small map where you do not know the blowfish code, you would need to generate one, test it against the meta and pna files, if it passed, stop the iteration, write the correct code to a file and stop the program. If it failed, write the code to a failed list file, generate a different code, based on the failed file, so it did not test the same code ever again, and carry out this testing iteration until you gained success.
OK now consider the impracticalities say for cracking the French Guiana map or Poland map,
we know the format of the meta.txt file is
XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX Poland-335.meta where every X is a hex digit. That is 16 numbers in 32 positions where the order is important and a number can be repeated. This gives 3.40282366920938e+38 combinations of which only one is correct. You can see immedately that to attempt to solve the blowfish code requires a lot of processing speed, ultra fast hard disk arrays and your 4TB hard drives are just not up to the task. To get the Africa map last version 865, I was damned lucky. I am running 4 SATA3 drives of high capacity and rather than create a file of failed attempts, I just put in a guessed starting code and sequence from there. I could be one digit out and never succeed. That is why blowfish codes are so successful. It really is just not worth the effort to try to solve them!!!!!
