A few comments concerning the modernization of the device (64MB RAM, 2.5 GB HDD, SiRFstar II 400MHz).
Seagate Microdrive disk can be replaced, without any trouble, by the CF card (preferably at least x133, such as 4GB or 8GB). Before installing the card it should contain the full copy of actual TomTom microdrive content, including hidden files.
Pictures and instructions how to replace hardware are here: TomTom GO700 Internal Drive Change.
The device works with NC SE 8.562. During installation, it could be used the original bootloader 5.4201 (do not copy the file "system" - which is bootloader 5.5136). Working modes are x40 and x40light2 (in the config files).
After changing the GO 700 behaves differently when connected to a computer - it connects after some time, then a screen with a cable appears , but there is no prompting call for confirmation of connection to computer. Anti-theft image is strongly dimmed during turning off.
When GO700 is connected to the docking station the RDS-TMC bar appears, although there is no antenna. There are two possible ways to solve this problem:
- In the map folder rename (or delete) the files: traffic.dat tmccodes.dat.
- Upload the file "ttpnpd" to the root of CF card. This file is located in the folder
of the 8.562 navcore on the CF.
It is a binary file ttpnpd (tomtomplugnplaydaemon) of size 34 800 B.
After copying, reset the GO 700 (paper clip).
Technical question - whether it makes sense, as given in other forums - to change the bootloader on the 5022 or 5.5229, 5.5242. 5.5120, 5.5128, especially as the GO 700 has no SD?

Biggest lie in the inernet: I searched but did not find.
actually Go700 working with 4.86 bootloader, works perfect, no need to change it.
Looking into my old backups, I found the following versions of navcore and bootloader pairs:
All these versions were applied via TTHome.
Thanks all for comments.
GO700 with 5.4201 works well. By mistake once I changed bootloader and to reverse the process I had to apply B/L 0001 succesfully.
"Pictures and instructions how to replace hardware are here: TomTom GO700 Internal Drive Change. "
These instructions are gone.
Does anyone know the instructions to replace hardware in Go700 or another link?
