Either:
Copy mapsettings.cfg from old map root to new map root and reboot. If you get a reboot loop you need to reconnect to TTHome, add a new Favorite, reboot and see if that works - details elsewhere at GPSU - apparently the format of mapsettings.cfg may/does change with map versions

Or:
What I do.
I have a POI I call Favourites (English spelling) and store all my favourites there and just copy them (and icon) to a new map. Works every time.
As far as I know (I'm sure someone here can give a definitve reponse) mapsettings.cfg also contains recent destinations and, possibly, Home along with Favorites (American spelling).

copying mapsettings.cfg does not necessarily work all the time. It works between certain map releases, but not all. For example, no matter what I tried, I could not get it to stick with 8.60. Had no problems between 8.45, 8.50, 8.55 with the same mapsettings.cfg however.

Hence my response in post #2, 'OR' clause, for when 'Either' does not work. Which is why I always use the 'OR' method; I neither want to preserve 'Home' nor 'Recent destinations' when upgrading to a new map.

If you use POI, I call mine _mine, _restaurants, _hotels. This then puts them at the top of the poi list so finding them is easier. Also if I update one poi, I really want all the maps to be updated. Tedious to do manually, but when you have all of the GO maps, you can do very easily. I use the attached to ensure all are on the same version. e.g.
