Lightbulb Rider3 app on non_Rider and old Rider devices

Maybe someone who don't has a Rider or has an old Rider wants to try the NC 9.205 (Urban Rider; Birthday= 05 July 2010) to use the features of the new Urban Rider.

I have an One 2nd edition (32MB RAM).

I can use use this original NC, but
    - available RAM shrinks to ~0MB.
    - the GUI looks oldfashioned and not like a Rider.

Thanks to DSA it is possible to run this NC with 32MB RAM (~ 8 MB available) as Urban Rider on any device.

This is a copy of my sdcard:
    download

    *****************************************
    NEW:
Urban Rider Special (with MP3 player)
I tried to mixture my latest configuration with some files from DMs "NC9 ME v2.0.0-pre3".

    This is the result:
    download

Note: You NEED a BT-headset with "Headset, Handsfree and A2DP" capabilities !!!

    configuration steps:
    - prepare headset to be ready for new connection
    - connect (pair) through headset-configuration
    - prepare headset to be ready for new connection AGAIN
    - connect (pair) through new loudspeaker-settings -> bluetooth (this is the "special")

    hints (special edition):
    - Each switch on first test voice before playing music
    - don't walk out of reach of your bluetooth connection while playing music
    - don't copy too much mp3 files onto your sdcard
    - special edition does not work on widescreen devices (icons broken)

    *****************************************

    hints (both):
    - use small maps (only one country)
    - no need for ASR/Cspeech enabled maps

    Feedback would be appreciated..

    additional infos:

TTS is enabled in this configuration, but the files are not included in my backup. You definitely need 64 MB of RAM to use LoquendoTTS v7. In mode "rider" TTS only works on "Rider Special".

If you want to change the mode you have to modify the file "reskin" with a Linux compatible editor (like Notepad++ or UltraEdit for example). Dont use Notepad or Wordpad (CR/LF -> LF problem). These values are supported: x20, x30, x40, x50, rider
You can also just copy one of the attached configuration files to the root of your sdcard if you dont have such an editor:
    configuration.zip

    In Rider-mode you need a bluetooth-headset.
It is expected to work on One 1st, One 2nd, XL 1st, any Go, any Rider.
On TT-devices without bluetooth this would be useless or you forgo sound.

Modes x20/30/40/50 should work on all devices.
Old Rider Cardos are different to those headsets which you can connect through loudspeaker-settings -> bluetooth hifi-device.
Headsets that can be connected this way support "A2DP" (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). This profile supports hifi quality in stereo.

Old original Rider-headsets support "Headset" and "Handsfree" profiles which are not compatible. They only support mono low quality sound, but have the advantage to remote control your mobile phone. As a result the cpu-load will be lower.

I do use a "JABRA BT320s Bluetooth-Headset" which supports Headset, Handsfree, A2DP and AVRCPPrfile, but many other will work too.

Please read the Urban Rider User Guide

The screenshot feature (shutter noise when touching upper left corner of navigation screen) can be disabled by removing or renaming the folder "screen".

Pls. don't ask questions through PM. Do use this forum!

This sounds fascinating, is there an easy way to enable TTS on a real Rider 3 device? I have one, and the original TT NC does not seem to support TTS/Loquendo/Whatever.

Just to check, I assume that this is the same version as posted some while ago? (the version that runs absolutely brilliant on a TT2)

Yes, I think it should work, because this is the only one that has 64 MB of RAM. As described in my posting you need my special edition and a A2DP enabled headset.
The only limit is the internal sdcard.

    Copy the TTSv7 package from
latest NC prepared for small and large devices
and the language of your choice from the list on the same page onto your device. (if you dont like german or englishUK)

NOW, you would be able to select a computer voice, but it is still possible that you cant hear it.
If so try the DM patch from the same page.

After all there could still be sound problems (yes TTS could be difficult).
If so try Clear Flash tool from the same page and start again WITHOUT DM patch (restore original file).

NEVER use Home to add voices on a device with disabled TTS or patched NC.

Try it and give me a feedback.

Re: Rider3 app on non_Rider and old Rider devices

I copied your sdcard image, d/l a new map(what an exercise in frustration that can be, ended up paying for a rapid-share account and problem solved )
Gotta tell ya Thanks! It works great, no speed issues, calculates re-calculates quickly. I did get map with iqroutes and lane assist. Very cool. I do not listen to my rider. I am never lost(rarely) and actually listen to my ipod when I ride. So i guess all the sound tweaks/fun are lost on me.

I use it as my speedometer. My 86 Sportster doesn't have one. I have moved the status bar to vertical. It is taking some getting used to in the car but I think i will like it better.
One thing I miss is the turn on turn off when power is turned on (i guess that wasnt an option on the urban???)

Anyway thank you again for your awesome post and files/instructions worked great!!!

Forgot to mention i have a Rider 2. Had to get rid of your BMW splash but found some cool Easy Rider photos to replace it with in your sd image :> again Awesome!

    There is a workaround possible:
Just switch temporarly to mode "x40". Now there is the known option available in settings -> battery. Just let it switch off without ignition.
Now switch back to mode "rider" and NEVER touch the battery option again.

    You are welcome.

Yes, there are some nice Easy Rider pictures in folder photos (for those who drive the other kind of bikes ;-)

Re: Rider3 app on non_Rider and old Rider devices

    Hi Bmwdriver+,
You have done some amazing stuff to get this to work. I have been running it very well on an XL One. I have also tried Rider 9205 on my 720. Now that is good. GPS plus phone directed to the headset.

Is there anyway to "force" the XL One to enable the Mobile Phone. The XL One has it in the menu, but it is greyed out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Its difficult for me to help you, because I dont have a phone with bluetooth.
    Your XL has bluetooth?
Connection from XL to headset works?

Maybe another user can give a comment?

Re: Rider3 app on non_Rider and old Rider devices

It's good NC. I use some time ago 9.05 but it was so slow, and restarted many many times.
    I have question
How to enable feature: "Switch device of on power loss"
Old one automatically power down on 10 sek. Seems Urban power down on 30 sek, but not with this NC.
